Scrubs does not have a series finale

By fred | November 12, 2007

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence declined a pre-strike request to write what could have worked as a series finale in a much sooner episode. ABC Studios, producing the series, asked for such a thing in order to be able to end the series even if the strike was meant to last, but Lawrence refused to do it.

He feels strongly about his show and intends to keep things going as they have originally been dreamed. The writing schedule of the show was not affected and there will be no such thing as a finale coming sooner than intended, and described by Lawrence as ending with “two people kissing”.

There are currently 9 more episodes written and that should be produced this season, leaving a total of six episodes unwritten as the current and last season of the show was to be 18 episodes long. If the strike lasted and NBC was to decide not to air those remaining six episodes next season, they could eventually end up on ABC, as there had previously been talk that the show could jump to ABC if it wasn’t renewed by NBC for this final year.
