Robin Williams to be Letterman’s first guest in 2008

Tomorrow is a bug day in the world of late night talk shows. Almost every show is going back on the air, but only two - Letterman and Ferguson - do so with WGA’s blessing, and their writers ! This will of course be a major difference, and as I’ve stated many times I really hope that no other hosts will try to do a (good) show, as doing so would be a stab in the backĀ in the writers’ cause, although they claim to still fully support them.
But things are different for Letterman, since he signed a deal and he’s back for real. And the first of his guest for this new year will be… Robin Williams!
Well, that sucks.
No offense, of course, but while the guy may have been funny years ago, ever since he’s always been able to always to the exact same things, the same imitations and stupid voices over and over again, and quite frankly I’m not sure I can take it anymore, it’s really turned into quite an annoying show over time.
I would hope, though, that with the strike and the AMTPT, studios and networks to make fun of, he’ll be able to come up with something a little new and different, but I’ll tell you honestly, I’m not holding my breath.
Thursday should be a much better show, though, as Letterman will welcome the always great and hilarious Bill Maher ! Now here you should have some great, dark, hilarious comments made about the whole situation. Really, I know that Williams is probably a much bigger names and that Letterman wanted such a A-list celebrity as first guest, to show how his show is fully back (no picket lines to cross or anything), but I personally still would have preferred Maher first.
Anyways, on Friday Letterman will welcome Donald Trump, so maybe there won’t be as much talk about the strike…
Meanwhile, no other hosts had made public his guests, and I would hope this is because they don’t plan on having any. Again, if they support the writers and the strike, why would they ask anyone to cross picket lines while they admit to only do so themselves forced, in order to save jobs ?
Anyways, at least Leno doesn’t care about any of that it seems, and he actually lined up presidential candidate Mike Huckabee for Wednesday’s show…
