Pushing Daisies vs Obama

By fred | October 28, 2008

Pushing DaisiesThat will be the match on Wednesday, and I’m not so sure how it will turn out for the pie maker and his friends.

The facts are these, over two weeks ago Obama’s campaign approached all the broadcast networks (except for The CW) about purchasing half an hour of primetime. The idea was to air the same ad on all networks at the same time, leaving no choice to people but to watch it, whatever the network. If CBS and NBC agreed rapidly (reportedly selling the half-hour for around $1 million each), Fox had to check with the Major League Baseball, which eventually agreed to postpone the game by about 15 minutes, thus allowing the net to join in.

Only ABC had yet to agree on the deal, but the Alphabet wasn’t too happy as their Wednesday line-up is already struggling, and by the time they finally agreed to it, Obama’s campaign wasn’t interested anymore, saying the funds had been allocated elsewhere.

So now, ABC is trying to use this at their advantage, airing ads telling viewers that “Wednesday you have a choice — get political with the other networks or [watch a new Pushing Daisies at 8.00]” This could lead to a nice boost for the show, as ABC could indeed be seen as the only alternative to Obama’s message.

Of course, many will actually be interested in said message, with the election only a few days away, and many could also assume all networks are in and tune in elsewhere. Because we’re not 30 years ago, and I hear people do have access to more than 4 channels now, a lot more…

How do you think this will play out for the pie maker ? What will you be watching come Wednesday night, at 8.00 ?

Listen, if you know who you’re voting for, regardless of who you chose, you don’t care about Obama’s message, since you’ve already made up your mind, just like nobody else gives a crap about you, for the same reason.

So on Wednesdays at 8.00, I ask all decided voters, whatever their choice is, to tune in on ABC and watch Pushing Daisies. And for the few of you who are still undecided, the only thing I can say to you has already been perfectly laid out by Samantha Bee and Jason Jones, so this is for you :

And be sure to record Pushing Daisies, this Wednesdays at 8.00 on ABC
