Pushing Daisies gets full season order!

By fred | October 23, 2007

Pushing DaisiesThat’s right, finally a full season order had been made for a good series! Yaay! According to ThePieMaker.com (and confirmed by other sources as well) ABC has just ordered 9 more episodes of their “forensic fairy tale” Pushing Daisies, upgrading it to a full season of 22 episodes !

This is obviously a great news, as the show is a pretty good one, although I’m far from being as enthusiastic as others. But hearing this news got me thinking about this show, and the more I do so, the more I realize how I’m not too fund of some of the different choices they made.

Let’s go first about narration. Many people are complaining about it, my name might very well be on that list in fact, as sometimes they should let actors express their feelings the way it happens in all other series, we don’t always need to be told how they feel.
I really wish they’d stop repeating what power the pie maker has and how it works.

Some are expressing their dislike of the fact that every time we are told how old one character is, it’s precise up to the second. This doesn’t bother me at all, it’s part of the whole “tale” thing. It’s very Amélie in fact, but forced to admit I believe in the movie it was much more diversified. And maybe they should follow that lead, don’t always go very precise in numbers for ages, but other things instead, like the exact number of hair on someone’s head, how many cookies they eat a day or something else they’re obsessed about.

It should just be random numbers, cause that’s that boring filler more than anything else, but restricting it to ages might get old very fast indeed.

I’m also wondering if choices they made were the best ones. For instance, you all remember that kiss through plastic wrap, and sure it was cute ans all, but I think it actually broke a great part of the magic here for viewers. Because that thing was pretty thin, I mean thin thin, any thinner you would have nothing in your hands, it’s impossible.

At first I thought they would play with that idea of those two soul-mates who couldn’t touch each others, but after that kiss, no wonder why they walk side by side with no precautions whatsoever. Touching themselves means nothing as soon as they wear clothes or something, apparently it has to be Ned directly touching the other person, or animal.

So basically they could wear very thin gloves and touch and caress each others just as easy.

I’m not sure this is such a good idea, because then why the Hell should Chuck sit in the back of the car, or should they have a glass between them otherwise. If you got either gloves or clothes, there’s no risk. Sometimes it feels like they don’t always make the best decisions, they got too aware of their status, how much love they get from critics and many fans, and as a result it can become a bit too pretentious, try too hard to be so magical and poetic it forgets to be a simple great little thing.

Just like for pies, the best ones are not always the ones where the cook tried too hard to make it (look) so perfect, but the ones made with love that may look pretty simple or usual, but simply taste so incredibly delicious.
