Prison Break Jumped The Shark, Big Time : Sara Is Coming Back !!
By fred | March 27, 2008
Okay so by now you probably all know that Fox renewed Prison Break for a fourth season. As I have said in the past, we all know that this season was a complete mess, and the writers’ strike had nothing to do with it : it sucked long before the strike started.
This season was a mess, but the end wasn’t completely ludicrous and I felt it would work as a series finale. It won’t, a new season is coming, and according to TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello the series will return with the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard, and since it’s not April Fools already, it has to be true… Sarah Wayne Callies is coming back as a series regular next season !
Clearly Prison Break has never been about realism, we all know that. Plenty of its plot development made no sense, but really this is the funniest crap I ever heard of. At this point they clearly are desperate, have no idea of what to do next with Michael and co, and are willing to do anything, and I mean literally : anything.
Here’s how executive producer Matt Olmstead tried to explain this non-sense :
But initially it was supposed to be her head. What changed ?
What changed was…. once we realized that the emotional hook of Season 3 was going to be the death of Sara, when we didn’t get the actress to do it, as soon as we wrote it and shot it, we realized that there was actually a way she could still be alive. Lincoln glanced at the head in the box for a split second. That could’ve been anyone. He wasn’t about to pull it up from the hair and inspect it closely. And then we were fairly careful thereafter of references we made to that and who took credit for it and what was seen or heard, and we left it fairly [vague]. But initially when we realized that we never actually saw the character get killed, we just had that knowledge in our back pocket and moved forward with the narrative as we intended. Which was: she’s out of the picture, Michael’s [feeling guilty] and Lincoln is freaking out because if they did that to her, they could do that to his son. It really gave us a real push for the season.
Yeah, right.
I think what he meant to say was more like, “What changed was… once we realized we had one more season to do and no idea whatsoever, and since we knew fans really loved Sara and were pissed that we killed her off, and given how making sense has never been part of our requirements when it comes to writing, we just decided to bring her back. We’re hoping that fans are stupid enough to go with this, because clearly it make no sense but we need 100 episodes to go to syndication and, well, what else where we supposed to do ? Actually, we had a poll in the writers room : it was either bringing back Sara, or sending Michael back to Fox River. It was close, but Sara won.”
Now I have to say I wasn’t really interested in this new season, but after reading this I’m even less wiling to go back to this bullshit. Let’s rewind a little, shall we :
* “Lincoln glanced at the head in the box for a split second. That could’ve been anyone.” — Okay, so Lincoln is the stupidest character ever. I mean who the fuck can open a box, see the head of a beloved friend, and not recognize him or her, and if you have a doubt, not even make sure who it really is. I mean, it could have been LJ then, no?
Not to mention : At the end of episode 3, Linc opens the box, not a little, he takes the top off completely, and stares at the head for a few seconds !! That’s not what I call “glance for a split second”, absolutely not.
* “we were fairly careful thereafter of references we made to that and who took credit for it and what was seen or heard, and we left it fairly [vague]” — Right, so let’s go to episode 9, then when Linc got to see LJ for a little while, and LJ said, I quote : “That bitch is crazy. She cut Sara’s head off. I was there. I closed my eyes but I heard it.”
So LJ too is a retard who can’t recognize Sara, even after spending a few days locked up in a room with her. Because she didn’t cut Sara’s head off in another room or anything, he didn’t even just not recognized her voice or anything : he was there, he closed his eyes, but I guess he saw Sara being “prepared” for the beheading, and could not recognize her either.
* No to mention things like why the fuck would they do something like that ? And how ? Because according to LJ, they didn’t create a fake head, no they went and found a girl who looked like Sara, an innocent girl, one that was alive so that they could kill her head off. And what happened to Sara, why keep her alive ? Where is she ?
This makes no sense whatsoever, this is the stupidest thing I ever heard of, ever. This is the most unbelievable and implausible story-line ever, not even Dallas or any other silly soap opera could even come close to this crap !
I tell you : I loved Sara, I really wanted her to live, I liked her relationship with Michael, I was rooting for them to end up together, but this ? I don’t even want to know how they’ll try to “explain” this mess, the show is officially dead. For real.
Maybe Sara hasn’t, but Prison Break lost its head.

My wife said from the day she was killed off that they might be pulling a fast one on us. If you recall in one of the earlier episodes when Lincoln went to the police station or something to identify a body, it turned out to be someone with a similar build to Sarah, but not her. Seems like we recall her also being headless. Anyway, we figured there’d come a day when we found out the head actually belonged to that other woman. Now, your reasoning behind why kill some innocent girl…. Yeah, you got something there. It is probably a little dumb. UNLESS, they wanted to scare Lincoln into performing, but keep Sarah as insurance for later if needed.
