Parents Television Council says there’s isn’t enough sex on TV !

By fred | August 8, 2008

Parents Television Council - Gossip GirlParents Television Council (PTC) is one of those organization obsessing with stupid things and thinking it’s the end of the world when a breast appears during the Superbowl or shit like that. Recently, they released a new study - hilariously called “HAPPILY NEVER AFTER - How Hollywood Favors Adultery and Promiscuity Over Marital Intimacy on Prime Time Broadcast Television” - which could be sum up like that : There isn’t enough sex on TV.

Okay, marital sex, to be precise. Still, we need more sex on TV is their point, I think.

But really, such studies are a complete waste of time & money in my opinion, and it’s not this latest one that’s gonna help things. Many things are wrong with it, and I won’t go over everything because I don’t really feel like wasting my time or yours on this, but I just want to address a couple of things, still, because it’s like the kind of shit it’s so stupid it’s funny.

One of the big problem with this study, beyond the fact that they simply ignore that most of the TV characters are not married, is that it seems to think that as soon as a sexual activity is seen or just talked about on a TV show, it means it’s embraced. They only look at quantity, not “quality”, if you want. For example when they watch an episode of Law & Order: Special Victim Unit and there’s mention of a rape, then that’s plus one in the non-marital sex column !

I mean, seriously :

References to incest, pedophilia, partner swapping, prostitution, threesomes, transsexuals/transvestites, bestiality, and necrophilia combined outnumbered references to sex in marriage on NBC by a ratio of 27:1.

Yeah, but does that mean all those references were actually embracing absolutely all of those, or quite the opposite ? Because I have an idea that when it comes to such things as incest or pedophilia it might referenced as in to say it’s illegal and whoever committed that crime is going to spend the rest of his life behind bars…

Also, PTC clearly are a bunch of idiots (well that too but) lack any sense of humor. Because here are a few of their examples :

- When it comes to ADULT/CHILD, they look at 30 Rock are are horrified : “Describing a new TV show, Jack says “MILF Island: 25 super-hot moms, 50 8th grade boys — no rules.” I think you have to be a member of the PTC not to see how this was a parody of what’s wrong with many reality TV shows these days, it was a perfect and hilarious attack of how this kind of crap is what’s worse on television, the show was actually making their point, only they can’t even see that.

- When it comes to INCEST, they refer to this scene from Aliens In America : “The Paladino twins talk to Justin, remarking on his sister Claire’s breasts.
First twin: “You don’t love those? What, are you gay?”
Justin: “No, I’m not gay.”
2nd twin: “Are you on that?”
Justin: “My sister?”
1st twin: “Oh, you gotta get on that.”
2nd twin: “Man, if she was our sister, I’d be up in her room every night.”
Justin looks disgusted and sickened by their stupidity.

Oh no wait, they didn’t put that last sentence on, I think they only saw that as an encouragement for teens to have sex with their siblings. Man, Thank God teenagers aren’t as stupid as the PTC members or we’ll be in a real deep trouble!

- Okay one last more,a bout MARRIAGE. They complain that “sex in the context of marriage is either non-existent on prime-time broadcast television, or is depicted as a burdensome rather than as an expression of love and commitment. By contrast, extra-marital or adulterous sexual relationships are depicted with greater frequency and overwhelmingly, as a positive experience.

To prove their point, they have examples of course. Like this one, from How I Met Your Mother :

Marshall: “I am not irrelevant! If Lily and I have sex twice a week, which, let’s be honest, we all know is being conservative, and we’ve been together 10 years, plus 17 more times on the honeymoon, minus the two-week drought when I said the checker at the grocery store looked like a young Lily, then, we have had sex a total of, wait for it, 1053 1/2 times. My mom called once. But that’s more times than Barney has ever had sex. And to your point, Ted, Lily is a quality girl. I win.”
Barney: “It doesn’t count.”
Ted: “It counts. As one. You’ve had sex once. How was it?”

Okay, how about the worst example in the history of examples ?? Because of course, it doesn’t matter that Marshall and Lily are actually about the best & cutest married couple on TV these days, and their relationship as been described as nothing but treasuring marriage, they love to be married, they love each others, and their sex life has been treated as very much active, passionate, fulfilling, hot and sweaty. They’re an example that the perfect marriage is possible is you really want it, work for it, and love each other, that marriage is great!

Yet, all the PTC can see if the joke coming from Barney - who’s really a very special dude when it comes to marriage - and Ted, who was simply jealous. I mean, the whole show is about how he is looking for his true love, the one he’ll marry and spend the rest of his life with, not just trying to get a new girl each week or so.

So, yeah, this study is pretty worthless and ludicrous, but at least I had a few laughs. And if you have time to waste and wanna see if there’s more of those hilarious PTC on-sense, read the whole study here.

Your grammar is terrible. Try proofreading the things that you write (don’t just spell check). Right now, people think you’re just an idiot.
