OMFG: The Gossip Girl Season Finale We Should Have Seen !

You all remember Gossip Girl’s first season finale, right? Did you feel there was a large taste of happy ending in the air ?
It may have looked a bit unusual, as season finales tend to end more with a cliffhanger in the middle of a very dramatic event, it’s best to keep one want more. And while it’s not that the season finale we actually got to see was disappointing, the one we didn’t get to see, the original one, might just have been much better, and a lot less happy let’s be honest…
Casting Director Renee Godbout might not be working on Gossip Girl next season - unless this is nothing but yet another promo move - but she recently revealed the secrets about what was originally planned to happen during the season finale.
The major change involves the new couple, Chuck and Blair. What we got was Chuck simply not willing to invest himself in Blair, afraid she would change him, so - thanks to daddy - he resorted to his old true evil self instead. Originally, he wasn’t showing up either, but for a much different reason…
Originally, instead of waiting at the helicopter pad, Blair is actually waiting at the airport, where she runs into Carter Baizen. After having told him she’s with Chuck now, she keeps checking her watch waiting for her boyfriend to show up. Of course, Carter tells her this is typical Chuck : make her believe they were a couple, only to leave her waiting like that.
Meanwhile, Chuck is actually on his way, in the limo, but stuck in traffic. As he complains to the driver they come upon a car accident, and who does Chuck see sitting on the curb ?? No other than his new mommy, Lily. She’s there, crying, over what looks like a body next to her. Chuck gets out of the car, Lily sees him, and shakes her head… Chuck’s father is dead !
Unaware of this, Blair is finally convinced that Chuck has stood her up and decides to go to Europe with Carter instead. The End.
Now that would have been something else, wouldn’t it ? A lot more drama, Blair having to deal with guilt as she “betrayed” Chuck, who was actually invested in the relationship. Chuck left dealing with anger, probably sadness as his father would never love him then… different directions for many characters, starting with Chuck & Blair of course, but also Lily and Rufus. I think it would have been an even better finale in fact, don’t you ?
PS: Other changes were also included, regarding Serena & Dan, but what we got was actually better I think.
Serena doesn’t catch Dan with Georgina the morning after the concert. Georgina had already left, and Dan’s moral compass persuades him to tell Serena the truth. Serena still tries to lie to herself about what really went down between Dan and Georgina.
