Not all 24 producers are delusional!

By fred | July 29, 2007

24Alright I have to one more time come back on this, to end it for good. I simply couldn’t believe that not only Fox chairman would refuse to admit the truth, last season of 24 sucked, but than even producers would said to be proud of it !

Well, finally at least some of them got their minds right, and admitted that the season was a disappointment, that they were responsible for this, but also promised that next season would please all “disillusioned” fans!

While producers finally agreed, during comic-con, that season 6 was a disappointment, and on an interview for Television Week co-executive producer David Fury acknowledges that fans had been disappointed by the season, and that this was due to the season being “poorly planned“, forcing producers to end its main storyline earlier than they had hoped.

It’s been a very tricky year for us; it’s been very difficult. This is year six and you try to keep the plates spinning on this show. You try to keep things interesting, find new ways to tell the story, and unfortunately we wound up repeating ourselves somewhat.

Honestly, this feels so good to hear. That they’re fully aware of what went wrong, so we can be reassured and hope that they know what to do to fix this next season.

He also explained that, during the first seasons of the show, the stories were mapped out and a pretty global idea of things to happen was drawn before hand, so they knew where they were going. But for season 4 and 5 they just didn’t do that (as much), and “[those seasons] turned out to be the two most successful seasons of the show. It just so happens that maybe this year it’s caught up with us.

The main plot about suitcase nukes got concluded on episode 17 with the death of Abu Fayed, and just as it ended a new story began, involving Audrey. This story felt somewhat out of place and like it was coming out of nowhere for a reason, that’s exactly what happened!

But that won’t happen again! “We’re going to figure out a little bit more [of the plots before production on the new season gets underway] so we don’t find ourselves in later episodes running into that problem. There will be a little bit more groundwork done that hopefully will sustain [the show] for an entire season.“, Fury said.

And happy to producers share what many, me included, have been complaining about pretty much all season long: they admitted not to be too happy with how little of Jack Bauer there was in season six, and felt that the last third of the season was especially Jack-lite.

Admittance to all those actually allow me to have hope for next season, despite its already chaotic start.

Fury said viewers can expect to see a new approach toward writing the episodes during next season, with a mixture of “winging it” and plotting out story arcs, and promised even “disillusioned” fans will come back for more.

A few season seven spoilers on next page…
