Next season big hit: JJ Abrams’ Fringe
By fred | April 9, 2008
Lots of new series are being discussed these days, as many networks are already ordering scripts or even pilots of new shows for the upcoming schedule. One of the many projects we can talk about already, because it’s more than a project or even a pilot, is the latest series coming from no other than J.J. Abrams himself.
Fox already put a 13-episode order for this new show, starting with a two-hour pilot, and said pilot only will cost no less than $10 million !
Needless to say that this show will either be the next big hit, or the new Bionic Woman.
Of course coming from JJ Abrams, the mind behind projects such as Felicity, Alias, or, of course, Lost, it easy to feel more inclined to think this might be a hit. The show is co-created with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and have recently seen Lost executive producer Jeff Pinkner added to the mix, as Pinkner will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
The show will focus on a FBI agent (Anna Torv) who brings together a research scientist (John Noble) named Walter Bishop, described by co-creator Orci as “Frankenstein mixed with Albert Einstein“, with his son (Joshua Jackson) in order to confront a spread of unexplained phenomena. The pilot script has been described as “intelligent, controversial and populist at the same time“, and the show might be a cross between The X-Files, House, and The Twilight Zone.
We’re apparently in for another amazing series filled with great characters, gruesome horror, tongue-in-cheek humor, action-packed scenes and, of course, lots of mysteries spreading over the overarching mythology.
Needless to say, I’m pretty excited about this one, I can’t wait for the pilot, and it sounds nothing like a new Bionic Woman, quite the opposite…
