More on Patinkin’s exit from Criminal Minds

It’s already been reported that Mandy Patinkin won’t return to Criminal Minds as a series regular. Still, he did came back and shoot something to provide some closure on Gideon’s departure from the team.
No word yet on how this will actually be done, we’ll stay spoiler-free, but a few info about this anyway.
As I told before Patinkin came back to shoot one scene, and one scene only. A scene in which Gideon might very well be the one character on screen.
Originally it was reported that the scene would be seen during the second episode of the season, but it appears that writers might have written things in a way allowing them to stretch things a but longer than that.
Even though Patinkin only spend one day on set, writers and producers constructed a story in such a way that they’ll be able to play out all that’s been filmed in one day during not one but two episodes of the show.
Turns out that Gideon should appear sooner than originally reported. His departure will be done over the two first episodes of next season, so I think you can already be sure he will not be killed or anything like that.
Most likely, either Gideon will quit or he will get fired somehow, I think. Only one day of shooting, scenes shown over two episodes, likely not much action going on, and maybe no one else around. Maybe we’ll only hear of the reasons Gideon leave, but he might not one say one single word during his scenes…
To find out how they had him leave in the end, if they were able to put their anger aside or not, tune in on September 26 for the season premiere of Criminal Minds, on CBS.
