More Emmy Talk: Guest and Supporting Comedy Actress; Comedy and Supporting Comedy Actor
By fred | July 3, 2008
Always more lists of candidates for a nominations for an Emmy are being released, one way or another, and so here’s the latest. Starting with guest actress in comedy series, and - Thank God! - no sign of Spears or the likes. Surprisingly though, the delightful Sarah Chalke isn’t on the list, which I believe is a real shame. It’s not new, How I Met Your Mother always gets snubbed, sadly.
Funny thing though : Sarah Silverman is already on the list for Best Comedy Actress, and she’s also here for her guest appearance on Monk. I didn’t find her performance here to be that good, but then again I find Monk to be really not a very good show…
This season 30 Rock proved to be quite good when it comes to guest stars, and it shows : on the list of 11 possible nominees, we find no less than 3 names from the sitcom, same as Desperate Housewives, except that - at least according to me - the ones from 30 Rock should be amongst the five official nominees.
Here’s the list, in bold my choices for nominees :
GUEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Amy Ryan, The Office (Goodbye, Toby)
Annie Potts, Ugly Betty (Zero Worship)
Carrie Fisher, 30 Rock (Rosemary’s Baby)
Edie Falco, 30 Rock (Episode 210)
Elaine Stritch, 30 Rock (LudaChristmas)
Jane Lynch, Two And A Half Men (Rough Night In Hump Junction)
Kathryn Joosten, Desperate Housewives (Welcome To Kanagawa)
Polly Bergen, Desperate Housewives (Distant Past)
Sarah Silverman, Monk (Mr. Monk And His Biggest Fan)
Shirley Knight, Desperate Housewives (If There’s Anything I Can’t Stand)
Vivica A. Fox, Curb Your Enthusiasm (The Rat Dog)
If I had to pick one, I think I’d go for Amy Ryan. It’s a tough one, cause Edie Falco was brilliant, but I really loved Amy Ryan on The Office - and I’m thrilled she’s coming back!
On to supporting actresses, still in comedy, and it really seems someone doesn’t like Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), which seems impossible to me, because she didn’t make it on that list either. Of course no one from How I Met Your Mother neither, because Alyson Hannigan or Cobie Smulders might be wonderful, this show just doesn’t get love.
Obviously though, the most surprising one name missing is the one of Jaime Pressly (My Name Is Earl), last year’s winner. I know this season hasn’t been that great, but she did as well as she always does.
Anyways, here’s the list, as usual in bold my votes :
BEST SUPPORTING COMEDY ACTRESS
Amy Poehler, Saturday Night Live (Tina Fey)
Conchata Ferrell, Two And A Half Men (Fish In A Drawer)
Elizabeth Perkins, Weeds (Risk)
Holland Taylor, Two And A Half Men (Media Room Slash Dungeon)
Jane Krakowski, 30 Rock (The Collection)
Jean Smart, Samantha Who? (The Girlfriend)
Jenna Fischer, The Office (Fun Run)
Judith Light, Ugly Betty (I See Me, ICU)
Kristin Chenoweth, Pushing Daisies (Girth)
Vanessa Williams, Ugly Betty (Bananas For Betty)
As for a winner, it’s a difficult choice, because Kristin Chenoweth is as sweet as can be, but I have to vote for the wonderful Jenna Fischer, I just can’t do otherwise. Give her the Emmy already!
