More Emmy Semi-Finalist
By fred | July 1, 2008
Some Emmy Finalists have already been made public, and now a few more are out. The list of semi-finalists for Best Comedy Actress and Best Supporting Drama Actor. Once again those lists aren’t for official nominees, people need to vote so we can get the official five nominees; still let’s talk about it!
Many are commenting on how Teri Hatcher is missing from the list, while Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria Parker are all on the list. I’ll just say that, sure, it looks like a snub especially on the semi-finalists list, but where does it say all Desperate Housewives actresses have to be all nominated ? I don’t hear people complain that much when only a couple of actors or actresses from Lost are nominated, and not the others.
Anyways, many reactions also from the inclusion of Sarah Silverman on the list, and I think I have to agree. I mean, I love her, I find her hilarious and I love the nod for the show, The Sarah Silverman Program, but Silverman doesn’t strike me as doing a tremendous acting job, she’s just her usual (stand-up) self, not really Emmy-worthy if you ask me, but I love the show so I’m not that bothered with it, really.
Here’s the list, in bold my votes for the 5 nominees :
BEST COMEDY ACTRESS
America Ferrera, Ugly Betty (Odor In The Court)
Anna Friel, Pushing Daisies (Bitter Sweets)
Christina Applegate, Samantha Who? (The Restraining Order)
Eva Longoria Parker, Desperate Housewives (In Buddy’s Eyes)
Felicity Huffman, Desperate Housewives (Now I Know, Don’t Be Scared)
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, New Adventures Of Old Christine (One And A Half Men)
Marcia Cross, Desperate Housewives (Now You Know)
Mary-Louise Parker, Weeds (Bill Sussman)
Sarah Silverman, The Sarah Silverman Program (Bored Of The Rings)
Tina Fey, 30 Rock (Sandwich Day)
My winner of choice would be Tina Fey.
Now, on to actors. If you were looking for names such as Hugh Laurie (House), Damian Lewis (Life) or Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), don’t go all crazy right now, they’ll probably be on the list for Best Drama Actor, at least I sure hope so!
About the nominations, first of all I have to scream yay for Michael Emerson ! He is amazing, he made this season of Lost be that great, he deserves the award. Of course, the current Emmy owner Terry O’Quinn deserved a nomination as well, and I can’t believe he’s not on the list.
Other than that, not much controversy here : Michael Emerson is a winner, Blair Underwood or Ted Danson have been terrific, tough choices here. Here’s the full list, and again in bold my choices as 5 nominees :
BEST SUPPORTING DRAMA ACTOR
Blair Underwood, In Treatment (Alex: Week 6)
Bruce Dern, Big Love (Good Guys And Bad Guys)
Christian Clemenson, Boston Legal (Roe vs. Wade, The Musical)
Jake Weber, Medium (Wicked Game, Part 1)
John Slattery, Mad Men ( Long Weekend)
Michael Emerson, Lost (The Shape Of Things To Come)
Naveen Andrews, Lost (The Economist)
T.R. Knight, Grey’s Anatomy (Freedom, Parts 1 & 2)
Ted Danson, Damages (Jesus, Mary and Joe Cocker)
William Shatner, Boston Legal (Mad About You)
Zeljko Ivanek, Damages (I Hate These People)
Do I really need to repeat who (I think) shall win ?
Once again, now it’s time to vote. They will rank the entries from 10 (best score) to 1. Accountants combine their scores with results of the original popular vote on a 50-50 basis, then determine the nominees, which will be unveiled July 17.
