More dramas for AMC

American Movie Classics (AMC) is really getting into original series, and given their past successes, with critically acclaimed series Mad Men and Breaking Bad, this can only be a good news.
AMC has already been developing several projects and plans to pick up two pilots by fall. They’re also working on two projects, Carter Beats The Devil and Ice, which won’t be ready in time to be considered but will be part of AMC’s 2009 pilot plans.
Carter Beats The Devil is a show about mysterious 1920s magician Charles Carter and his role in the death of President Warren Harding, while Ice revolves around a family in New York’s diamond district.
AMC’s senior VP of scripted series and miniseries, Christina Wayne, explained : “As we continue on with development, we definitely look for specific worlds that are distinctive and haven’t been seen on the TV screen before. These two projects deliver on all of those things. When we go out into the community, we ask people if they have things that feel like a one-hour movie.”
As a matter of fact, Carter Beats The Devil, based on the book by Glen David Gold, who will be serving as a consultant on the show, was originally developed as a feature film. Talking about Ice, Wayne said that “there’s an old-fashioned crime aspect to this. The diamond industry has always been considered incredibly dangerous. This is a way to do a family drama set in a distinctive world.”
Two projects that do sound interesting, especially considering AMC’s previous original series. Speaking of which, while the second season of Mad Men premieres July 27, production for Breaking Bad’s second season is scheduled to begin next month.
