Lipstick Jungle might not be canceled after all !

By fred | November 18, 2008

Lipstick JungleAlongside My Own Worst Enemy, reports have been out about Lipstick Jungle being canceled as well. But now, it seems that said cancellation didn’t really happen, or could be undone, or something. It’s not really clear.

Brooke Shields recently told US Weekly that Lipstick Jungle was not canceled, “They thought that because My Own Worst Enemy has been shut down that the same thing had happened to us, and it’s not true … they’re not breaking down the sets. We’re still working. We still have more to do, so it’s erroneously presented that we’ve been canceled, thank God.

Now, it’s just silly to think people just assumed it was canceled because another show was, and while they might still be working that’s only because they’re wrapping up production of episode 13, last-ordered episode, as NBC is planning on airing all the remaining episodes.

But now comes the funny part : while no one cared to see the Christian Slater-led show go away, many fans have protested against Lipstick Jungle’s fate, and reports are that fans are even mailing tubes of lipstick to the network. We all know how that can lead to nothing, and even when it works it doesn’t always go well — see Jericho’s fate on CBS.

Still, people from the show are now trying to pout fans’ love for the show to good use and lobby for a back-nine order, which is also helped by recent numbers. Last Friday the show went up 17% in the demo from last week’s episode, which was also up 20% itself. Of course, those are still from very poor numbers, as the show only got a 1.4 on the demo last Friday, which just isn’t enough. Plus, the show doesn’t perform well in reruns.

But the show averaged better (1.9) when on Wednesdays, gets good numbers from DVR viewings, and it has always been among the best-rated among high-income households, which NBC likes. So while only one more episode is scheduled so far, still NBC co-chairman Ben Bilverman confirmed Monday that the Peacock would definitely air the 13 episodes originally ordered, and may even order more if the show “grows more.

Conclusion : the show has not been officially canceled yet (or has been un-canceled, pick whichever you like best) and all of the 13 ordered episodes should air, though no dates have been set as of now. An official pickup for a full season order remains unlikely, but NBC gave them to Kath & Kim or Knight Rider, so there might be hope.

One thing for sure, if you like the show you better make sure to tune in and watch every single one of the remaining episodes, starting this Friday with the last one scheduled for now, because it seems that no official decision have been made yet…
