Katherine Heigl slaps Grey’s Anatomy’s producers in the face, doesn’t want another Emmy

By fred | June 12, 2008

Katherine HeiglRumors have been out for a while now that Katherine Heigl was willing to leave to ABC hit-drama to move on to “bigger” things, namely pursue her movie career after the two successes she starred in, Knocked Up and 27 Dresses. But she has a contract holding her to the show for a bit longer still, and they’re not willing to let her go for now.

Apparently, Heigl isn’t too happy about it, and wasn’t too pleased either with what she was given to do this season on the show. In about a month, when nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards will be announced, last year’s winner for actress in drama series - Katherine Heigl - will not be one of them.

Why ? Because she asked not to be!

In a very serious way, here’s what Heigl had to say about it :

I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention. In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.

And no, we’re not kidding; And neither is she.

Now I have to say that a few months ago when the latest trend at the time was to hate on her because of “unflattering” comments she made towards Knocked Up and Grey’s Anatomy, I was actually defending her. I still stand by it, but this time I have to say things are a bit different.

I can see why she wasn’t too happy wit the whole “saving-the-deer” plot, because it was crap I think we can all agree on that, and I would have no problem with her saying that she didn’t find this was the greatest material one can be given. That said, to withdrew her name from contention is going quite a bit further. For starter, while trying to hurt the Grey’s Anatomy staff, obviously, she’s actually hitting on the Emmy as well.

Not that I have the biggest respect for them, they’ve clearly demonstrated over the years they didn’t really even watched TV, but still, do they need Katherine Heigl to save them from corrupting the integrity of the academy organization ?? It’s almost as if she thinks that because she’s so talented, people could actually gave her another Emmy (nomination) even though she didn’t deserve it, because she can turn crap into gold or something.

It’s not just a huge slap in the face of Grey’s Anatomy producers, but also to the academy. Also, while obviously good material helps, the Emmy (nominations) for best actor/actress do not actually care whether or not the material was great, but whether or not the performance was. That’s why there are other categories that cares and celebrates the material, not the performances. Plus, we don’t need her to see whether something is crap or not, thank you.

Clearly Heigl is unhappy with what she’s given to do on Grey’s Anatomy, and wishes to leave for what she hopes will be bigger/better things, but while I welcome a refreshing honesty regarding what one is given to do, here she seems to be pretty full of herself and crossing the line between being honest, and being condescending.
