Kath & Kim getting serious with NBC…
By fred | June 30, 2008
NBC new comedy Kath & Kim, which the network ordered 6 episodes from and put it on its fall schedule even before a pilot was made, as part of their latest “strategy”, has now made its pilot episode, and NBC is now backing things up adding an order for 7 additional episodes, bringing the total order for the new series, starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair, to 13 episodes.
Of course, that’s still not a full season order, but I guess NBC still needs to make sure what the audience will think of the show, based on an Australian hit. The show is now scheduled to go back into production next month on the remaining episodes.
The show was actually originally picked up to pilot last fall, but then, after casting Shannon and Blair as the two leads, NBC decided to order 6 episodes right away in February, going with their new no-pilot strategy. The show will benefit from a strong lead-in, as it comes in Thursdays at 9.30 right after hit-comedy The Office. The series premiere is scheduled for October 9.
