Jericho returns, with two endings !

By fred | January 21, 2008

JerichoAs you probably know, there’s one show coming back this season this isn’t like any other, because after the network pretty much killed it, fans went nuts and “successfully” had CBS to realize their mistake, and a second season of post-apocalyptic series Jericho is heading its way towards us.

I’m not sure it was a full success given how, despite their admittance to having killed the first season, they only ordered a very small second season, with only seven episodes. But there may be hope for more, there may be, because CBS said that, should that second season do well, a third one could be ordered after wards. I don’t know if they really meant it or not, but all people who love the Jericho, from fans to producers, writers, the cast, all sure hope they did, and that a third season will follow.

In fact, Carol Barbee, executive producer of the series, told Sci-Fi Wire that for the upcoming season, which will tell a complete story ending during its last episode, two endings were actually shot. One if the show was to end, for good, after the seventh episode of this season, and another one with a third season in mind.

We don’t end the show. What we do, we did two endings. We shot two endings. And one of them basically just lets you know that everybody is OK. The other ending shows you exactly where we’re going to go for the third season. … I wouldn’t call it a cliffhanger as much as I would say you say, ‘Oh, OK, now I know where we’re going to go.’ But if there’s not going to be a third season, the other one puts sort of a nice emotionally satisfying point to it.

So they’re ready for a third season, and one could imagine that with the still going writers’ strike, and the upcoming pilot seasons in jeopardy, if the second season was performing well CBS might indeed be willing to pick up the show for a third season, since they’d be running short on new series for the next season. And, no one needs to remind them how Jericho comes with its highly dedicated fans, which is always a plus.

In the end, it might be up to viewers : will they be watching Jericho when it returns on CBS, Tuesday, February 12 at 10.00 ?

I sure hope they will, because I do like the show, I would love a third season, especially since I’ve watched the first episodes of that second season, and let me tell you this : it’s pretty cool ! It’s the same as it was during season one, only different, and - dare I say - better !

I won’t spoil anything for you, but while things have evolved, there’s still tension and excitement, and it looks to be even more compelling & exciting than the first season was. Barbee explained how this new season would take the show into new territory. “The headline is [that] the first season was about surviving the nuclear attack and saving the town. The second season is about saving the country and our way of life, our system of government. And then the natural progression is to have that be save the world for the third season.

So, if you want to save the world, and have a great time doing it, make sure to tune in on CBS February 12 at 10.00, when Jericho returns !
