Jericho fans can be pleased… NOT!

I guess pretty much every one knows, by now, about the CBS drama Jericho. Had you never watched it before, all the fans’ “Nuts” campaign and its happy ending got talked so much that you must have heard of it, one way or another.
And the fans have a few reasons to be happy, in theory. Unfortunately, it won’t leave the area of theory, because in reality, they’re just, well, fucked. Not that they didn’t succeed in achieving they’re goals, just that it won’t matter.
“I fought the law and, and the law won.”
Yes, Jericho fans can be happy : they got their show back on the air for another season !
Sure, it will be a small one, only six episodes, but that’s still better than nothing, right? Well, not really. See, the fans didn’t want another season just to have a couple more episodes to enjoy, and then be left hanging without any answers or any kind of closure. Hell not, that’s exactly what they fought against!!
And there has been questions about what would happen during those episodes, whether or not fans would - again - be slapped in the face, well, after starting the fire it only seems logical that executive producer Carol Barbee made things clear.
During the recent CBS television critics press tour, Barbee said they were “arcing out an action story that will have resolution [at the end of the seven episodes].”
So here we go, fans can relax : there will be, by the end of the seventh episode, a resolution.
Although, if you expected some kind of resolution or answers regarding the actual (main) story of Jericho, don’t get too excited, that you won’t get.
Because had they had a full second season order, things would have evolved, and the action would have eventually moved to New-York. But with only seven episodes, this will not happen. Instead, things will stay within Jericho, as “the stories will focus on just a couple of people“, says Barbee.
In fact, if all the cliffhangers from last season “will be paid off“, that be done as soon as the end of the season premiere: The second episode will jump ahead in time to focus on the new story. A new story that will be fully done after those episodes.
But for what really matters, what fans really wanted, closure on the main story, answers about the bombing and the men behind, well, ******.
Of course, if CBS wanted to order more episodes, and give this new season a full order of 22 episodes, fans couldn’t be happier, and the show’s people “are ready, willing and able” to continue on beyond the seven episodes, confirmed Barbee. Truth is, they “would love nothing more than to keep going” !
Yet somehow, I’m pretty sure that won’t happen. Fans fought, and they only got an impression of success, but it’s only a mirage so they shut up. Leading us to the other reason they could be happy with their success, in theory only, of course.
