It’s not Lost, it’s the Emmys !

By fred | July 27, 2007

LostAs you’ve heard before, the latest Emmy nominations have been announced, and as usual while some shows and their fans were pleased, others are frustrated, annoyed or even angry. Among which, are Lost’s fans.

Despite getting some nominations, notably for Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson both for “Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series”, it is clear that the snow got once again snubbed, as proves its absence from the list of nominees for “Outstanding Drama Series”.

Now I’ve started to hear and read here and there people trying to somehow give credit to the Emmys, and actually blame Lost for this lack of nomination, people trying to point out that the show had not, after all, been snubbed.

For instance Jon Lachonis has been saying that if the show wasn’t nominated for best drama, it’s not because the Emmy’s voters are stupid people who don’t watch TV, but simply because the show wasn’t worthy.

He explains that the first six episodes of the show were not good, and I won’t argue with that, obviously. “The fact is, fans and critics alike were trashing Lost when season three began.“, he recalls.

And according to him, this illustrates why the show didn’t get a nomination. Because just like us, just like both critics and fans of the show, Emmy’s voters didn’t like the way Lost started, and that it’s “the very reasoning behind [this] complaint” that justifies it.

Let me say it clearly : he is wrong!

That has nothing to do with anything, and I think it can be proven. Yes, the first episodes of the season sucked, really bad. But then Lost reclaimed everything, they then have been delivering awesome episodes after fantastic ones. Mysteries were (partially) resolved, (big) answers were revealed, the whole main story moved on.

The season kept getting better and better, and again both critics and fans, including the most disappointed ones, were all back on its side. It was unanimous, especially after the fantastic finale that they brought us : this season was a franc success. A slow and painful start, indeed, but nothing but an undeniable success in the end.
So much that many critics & fans are calling this simply the greatest season of the show so far!
