It Won’t Be Easy For New Series To Return Next Season…

By fred | March 19, 2008

As we’ve seen for example with the numbers of last Sunday, TV already lost viewers. Before or during the writers’ strike, some networks wondered if it would really have such an impact, they tried to have us thinking that they were just fine, if not better, with nothing but reality TV and other unscripted crap.

Then on Sunday, we saw that 20 million of viewers weren’t watching TV anymore, and the question was up : will they all be back once the reruns would be over ?

A survey of 1,000 TV viewers conducted by a New York-based ad buyer showed that a majority of TV viewers (62%) are willing to forget about months of unscripted crap and reruns everywhere, and return to their favorite shows once new episodes will be back on. But only 55% said they were willing to go back to watching their top shows even if they didn’t return until next season.

I’ve no doubt people will be back for 24, despite not coming before next January at best (although you will see Jack Bauer sooner than that). But since as we all know that pretty much every new series of the season (Life, Pushing Daisies, Chuck, Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice, …) won’t return until next season, how many of these new series had already found their way on viewers’ top shows list ?

It’s been a long while since we’ve seen some of those shows, they were new, and we only had a dozen episodes at best. Makes you wonder if holding on new episodes for the newcomers was really a good idea. Hopefully they will return with a lot of promotion, and complete set of reruns…
