Hugh Laurie gets a well-deserved raise

He might not have been well-known in the States before he came to play Gregory House, but the show changed his life and Hugh Laurie is now a major star, he is House, he’s the star of the biggest drama on television. No one could possibly deny the fact that Laurie makes the show : he is the main character, the heart of the show, everything revolves around him, and he just keeps delivering tremendous performances one after the other.
He was nominated for an Emmy in 2005, but did not win and wasn’t even nominated the following year. But we all know how the Emmy are always out of touch with, you know, the reality of television. Laurie did win a Golden Globe in both 2006 and 2007 though, as well as a Screen Actors Guild award in 2007. Yet, he was still much less paid than others. This has now been fixed, as he received a raise in salary expected to rise to $400 000 per episode.
Still not as much as Kiefer Sutherland (24, close to $500 000 per episode) or William Petersen (CSI, $600 000 per episode), but it’s still pretty good. The new deal will get Laurie a producing credit on the show, as well as adding another year to the actor’s contract on the series, assuring he will stay on at least through the 2011-12 season.
