Has your favorite new series been picked up already or not?

By fred | October 20, 2007

A few new series have already received a full season order, but don’t get too excited : none of them are worth it.

The first series to received its season pass was Gossip Girl, and I failed to see why because it’s really not that good. I did give it a try, but it quickly turned into simply yet another teen show with really nothing in it. The last episode I saw was the fourth one, and it reminded me of other Josh Schwartz series, namely Chuck

Because we were given yet another horrible TV cliché, and I can hear already people explaining how it’s done on purpose, it’s a parody an whatnot, but in the end it still nothing but that same old cliché re-done once more, without humor, second degree, and or element of parody whatsoever.

The two main characters on the show are called Blair and Serena, bot they go by their first name’s initial only. That’s B and S, and yes, the show is filled with a lot of “BS” actually. Like B being chosen by her mom to model for her collection, only to have S to be spotted and “steal” the spotlight from her friends. But she didn’t want to, and quit in the end. I could go more about how and why it sucked, but it’s boring and really not worth it.

But it will be around for one full season, so “yay!”, I guess.

Now if The CW could not be stupid and order a full season of the great series that is Reaper, we would all be happy, Devil included. And you don’t want to piss him off!

To keep up with bad series being picked up, Private Practice is an awful spin-off from Grey’s Anatomy. It’s nothing like the original show, it’s nothing but clichés, shallow and caricatural characters, it is even less realistic and credible than the original one and failed to have anything remotely worth anyone’s time.

Yet it holds over 12 million viewers and as such ABC did order a full season. I want to throw up.

In other bad news, The Big Bang Theory got picked up by CBS. I’m not sure why, I mean it’s less awful than the previously mentioned show, and it has its moments, but it’s not really that good.

CBS also ordered a full season of The Unit, who only had received a 13 episodes order. Not that anyone cares, I think, not a new series either, but it hapenned so here it is.

Fox, on the other hand, is well known for giving real actual chances to their new series, especially daring, promising, exciting new ones. While I haven’t actually read, heard or seen much about the new Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls) comedy The Return Of Jezebel James, I can already tell you that Fox intend to cancel the show after 3 or 4 episodes aired.

I really hope you will not tune in and start watching this one, because should you end up liking it you will get highly disappointed and pissed at Fox, again. Anyone who watched an episode of Drive knows what I mean. Fox already went from its original order of 13 episodes to only seven. This is a very bad sign. Add to that the upcoming strike, and of course the fact that this is Fox, it’s safe to say this show doesn’t have a chance.

I’m really waiting for NBC, who have yet to pick up their new series. All they did is order 3 more episodes for each of them, but that’s only due to the strike cloud facing Hollywood. I really hope they pick up Life, their best new series, and give a fair chance to Journeyman. Given it’s success, despite my dislike for this stupid show, I would assume that Chuck will get picked up.

Bionic Woman on the other hand is not doing very well, and the show sucks. So if it can make it up to 16 episodes, I’d say it probably won’t go any further than that.
