Grey’s Anatomy writers on to kill Katherine Heigl ?

Well, her character, Izzie, that is.
There’s been quite some talks when Heigl decided she didn’t want another Emmy because she felt she wasn’t given strong enough material this past season. Now whether or not you agree with that statement, to go as far as releasing a press release to slap producers/writers of the show, among others, right in the face as she did is not something to do.
Especially when those people are the ones responsible for her career going so well in the first place, and the Emmy she won one year ago. But all agree that Heigl did so because she feels she could become a movie star, based on the box-office success of her movies like Knocked Up or 27 Dresses, and she’d like to focus on the big screen. But she can’t, because she’s under contract with Grey’s Anatomy for a few more years.
Hence the whole mess she started, hoping to get fired. And apparently, the latest buzz is that it might happen, as creator Shonda Rhimes might be entertaining the idea of killing off Izzie Stevens next season. I’m not sure what would be best, because if people don’t get along well and are forced to work together it might eventually hurt the show, but at the same time if the writers are really pissed at Heigl, the best thing they could do is to keep her on.
Since she wants out, just keep her on and show her what it is to have “unworthy” material, give her the most degrading/stupid/boring things to do over and over again. Done right, it might work within the show, maybe end up funny, and let’s not forget that they can always cut a lot of what’s been shot out, if, you know, it isn’t strong enough and shouldn’t be presented to the audience.
And if I would agree that Izzie hasn’t really been given good storylines - I seem to remember something involving a deer, and it was a pathetic mess for sure - I think killing her character off just won’t do the show any good. The very best would be to simply try to give everyone good material into interesting stories, and never mind this whole controversy.
If there’s one thing the show has been good at, is making it to the headlines. What do you think, should Heigl be fired ? Is this just another publicity stunt ?

It is a publicity thing. Heigl is the only asset they have on that show - and if she goes I will stop watching for sure. She didnt give a press release either the LA times Envelope site asked the question and her publicist responded on her behalf with a statement. You make it sound like she sat down with the press and bitched about it. If anything she was just being honest.
Not me! Izzie is one one the whiniest characters ever the grace the small screen. So I’m torn…make Katherine suffer through that contract though or make me suffer through having to watch her.
