Golden Globes Canceled !

By fred | January 7, 2008

There’s been lots of talk about the Globes. The WGA did not grant a waiver nor did it sign a deal with Dick Clark Productions, and said they would picket the event should it be televised by NBC. They also said that, should the ceremony take place but not be televised, they would not picket.

Golden GlobesBut then NBC came in, and they did not want to let the show go off and told repeatedly they would air it. Breaking news coming from Nikki Finke, whose sources report that NBC finally decided not to air the Golden Globes as planned on January 13, realizing that without any celebrities no one would care about the show, and they would not make any benefit from it.

Instead, a stripped down announcements telecast will be aired by NBC News. It will consist of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association handing out Golden Globes to the winners, who will then pick up the awards and pass through a press room for photos and interviews. “It’ll now be a news event where the actors can still get all glammed up.

I still wonder who will show up, and if NBC will really air every winners, one after the other blaming NBC and the AMPTP for this whole mess, the “cancellation” of the Globes, and bashing their refusal to even go back and talk with the WGA so that everyone can go back to work soon…
