Futurama coming back!

By fred | August 6, 2007

The news came directly from Futurama creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen at the series’ Comic-Con panel : the beloved animation comedy will be returning as a feature-length direct-to-DVD high definition film, due to be released on November 27th.
This will only be a start, and be followed by three additional direct-to-DVD films.

Futurama

Each of those movies will also be divided into four episodes, slightly “adjusted” to fit commercial breaks, resulting in 16 episodes that will air on Comedy Central sometime in 2008.

At the series’s Comicon panel was present the “vocal cast” of the show, who read aloud a promotional comic book created for the convention, while the comic was projected on screen. The comic satirized the Fox network’s decision to cancel Futurama and the ultimate triumph of the nerds in the room whose mighty power brought it back. In the comic, the characters all go to a massive Delivery Services-Con in Space Diego.

Not many revelations were made regarding those new Futurama movies/episodes, but titles of the movies are known :
- Bender’s Big Score
- The Beast with a Billion Backs
- Bender’s Game
- Into the Wild Green Yonder

Spoiler Alert

Not much more is known, but the plot of the first movie, Blender’s Big Score :

As evil nudist aliens launch a cyber-attack on Planet Express, they also make an unexpected shocking discovery : the secret of time travel, mysteriously tattooed on Fry’s buttocks. Then using one of their software they take control of Blender and send him back in time to loot Earth of all its greatest treasures.

As one can expect, Blender’s rampage though History won’t go just smoothly and will have shocking repercussions as he’ll meet with Al Gore, guess-voiced by Al Gore himself, during the 2000 Presidential recount.

Meanwhile, Leela will find true love and a beloved crew member suffers an embarrassing decapitation, while Fry learns deep secrets about his destiny, and his buttocks.
