Fox chairman liked last season of 24!!

By fred | July 22, 2007

24There aren’t many things to be said about the last season of 24. It sucked.

We all know this, it’s been said, a lot, throughout the season and after it ended, by both critics and fans. And regular viewers, and their dogs. I mean there’s a reson the show was voted second worst show of the year at the Critics Poll Summer 2007 !

But Fox chairman Peter Liguori apparently doesn’t agree.

I don’t really know how he could really say that, and mean it, but during Fox’s TCA press tour Peter Liguori refused to call last season of the show a “disappointment”.

And it’s not that he didn’t understand the question, misheard or anything, because when he got asked again, as no one else on this Earth could understand how anyone could not call this season, at the very least, a disappointment, Liguori still denied it, even declaring that “last year’s performance doesn’t require wholesale changes

So, while I understand that part of the job is to support the people working with you, even - or especially - during the hard times, another part of the job it to take your responsibilities and admit when something went wrong.
And last season of 24 went terribly wrong.

He could have reensured that all the people working on the show, writers, producers, actors, everyone, had his full support and he was confident that next season would be (one of) the best ever, while still admitting that this season was a mess.

Pretending that everything is good doesn’t make things good. It really doesn’t, but it might make things to come look bad, as one start to wonder.. do they really believe it was a good season? Aren’t they aware that it sucked and if no changes are made no one will be watching anymore?

BTW, when commenting the fact that the next season’s president will be a woman, Liguori declared that “[Producers] consistently go after bold ideas to keep the show fresh“.

Well, I personally wouldn’t call it a “bold idea” to have a woman for President, but you know, I guess it’s because I don’t work in the misogynist world of TV….
