Emmy: Best Supporting Drama Actress, The Semi-Finalists

By fred | July 1, 2008

Sarah ShahiAnd now the list for Best Supporting Drama Actress is out, and I’ll say that there are two big names I’m shocked not to see on that list, because I felt they should be actual nominees for the award : the first one is Sarah Shahi, from NBC’s Life. She’s been quite amazing the entire season opposing Damian Lewis, and I’m really shocked not to see her here. I guess it was to do with Life not getting lots of press somehow, even though it was simply the best new series of the season, hands down.

Well, I surely hope Damian Lewis won’t be overlooked either, because he is too doing some amazing job !

The second name I’m shocked not to see here is Mia Wasikowska, known as Sophie on HBO’s daily series In Treatment ! She was nothing but amazing, and I cannot believe she’s not on that list ! Eben more shocking to me, Dianne Wiest, from In Treatment as well, is. It’s not that she was bad, but I honestly feel Mia Wasikowska deserves the nomination a lot more, but I guess her name wasn’t known enough… what a bunch of crap!

And it’s not either that there are so many names, because - no offense - but both Sarah Shahi and Mia Wasikowska delivered what I strongly feel were better performances than, say, Sharon Gless or Jill Clayburgh. Not that they were not doing a good job, but Shahi and Wasikowska were really tremendous, and Emmy-worthy. I’m kinda pissed right now, to tell you the truth.

Anyways, here’s the list :

BEST SUPPORTING DRAMA ACTRESS

Candice Bergen, Boston Legal (The Mighty Rogues)
Chandra Wilson, Grey’s Anatomy (Lay Your Hands On Me)
Christina Hendricks, Mad Men (Babylon)
Dianne Wiest, In Treatment (title to come)
Jane Alexander, Tell Me You Love Me (Episode 10)
Jill Clayburgh, Dirty Sexy Money (The Watch)
Rachel Griffiths, Brothers And Sisters (Domestic Issues)
Rose Byrne, Damages (Because I Know Patty)
S. Epatha Merkerson, Law & Order (Bottomless)
Sandra Oh, Grey’s Anatomy (The Becoming)
Sharon Gless, Burn Notice (Identity)

And I’ll be rooting for Rose Byrne, who was really great on Damages. Can’t wait for season 2!!

Once again, now it’s time to vote. They will rank the entries from 10 (best score) to 1. Accountants combine their scores with results of the original popular vote on a 50-50 basis, then determine the nominees, which will be unveiled July 17.
