Eliza Dushku’s new series soon to be canceled!

By fred | November 2, 2007

A while ago I mentioned that Eliza Dushku might come back soon on TV, after she signed a development deal with Fox.

Eliza DushkuAnd after her deal signed, the beautiful actress called a friend she had been working with in the past, Buffy’s creator Joss Whedon. After some talk she had him back on TV, writing on a new drama called Dollhouse. I’m sure this news will please a lot of fans, of both Dushku and Whedon.

The show should be about Echo (Dushku), an FBI agent who can have her personality completely erased and replaced for each mission she’s sent on. Could be damn useful, but unfortunately along with personality the memory gets erased each time, rending things much less fun already. Basically, Echo and other agents can be given new memories, skills, and personalities each time. Kinda makes it hard to get character development it seems, but I’m sure they’ll figure this out. Or will they?

Because already when I mentioned the deal Dushku signed, I also wonder how long it would last, because, well, it’s Fox. Today we hear that Dushku got Whedon on board with her on that new project, and that Tim Minear is also involved. Those names, associated to Fox, might sounds familiar. Firefly or Drive comes to mind, and they all got canceled very (too) soon.

Doesn’t seem to bother Whedon though, “Honestly? Walking back into that building was pretty damn strange. I always had a good relationship with [Twentieth Century Fox], and on the network end, it’s a completely new bunch of people, and from what I’ve seen, a fairly impressive bunch.

Dushku is on the same page, adding “I really get the sense that they’re committed to [this show]… It feels right“.

Fox ordered seven episodes already, and I sure hope they’re right about this, although with the writers strike - and Whedon surely is on board - we might not get to see it this season.
