Eliza Dushku might come back on television, but she might not stay long…

By fred | August 27, 2007

Eliza Dushku…hopefully she will, though.

It seems that the some network people do like Eliza Dushku quite a lot, and really want to work with her in a near future. So much that to ensure an high probability that it would happen, they signed a development deal with her !

Yeah, they want her that much. A development deal really is something, and behind this contract - said to be in the mid- to high-six figures, network and studio will develop projects especially made for the actress, as well as sending her already existing scripts or ideas.

So all fans of the beautiful actress seen on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as the other slayer, Faith, or in her very own series Tru Calling might be happy to know she might come back soon on the little screen.
But will she stay on?

Not to be mean, but she signed that deal with Fox Broadcasting Co. and 20th Century Fox Television. That’s Fox, the network that cancel show before the second commercial break. Fox chairman Peter Liguori said “This is a business of instincts“, and their instinct usually seems to be along the lines of “pull it off, it won’t work. I can tell, no one is talking about it, no press, no blog, nothing, and it’s been on the air for like 20 seconds already.. so it’s doomed to fail.”

Regardless, while her latest project for Fox, Nurses, didn’t go any further than a pilot this is a pretty good deal for Dushku, who’s no stranger to either the studio or the network as she was, as mentioned, the series lead in Fox’ Tru Calling, recurred on Buffy and Angel, who like Nurses pilot were made for 20th Century Fox TV.

Clearly we’ve had a very long-term relationship with her. We wanted to be in a more significant business relationship now. She’s such an interesting, smart, soulful person and that all comes through on the screen” told 20th Century Fox TV Dana Walden.

Fox chairman Liguori won’t argue there, far from it. “Kevin [Reilly] and I think she’s awesome. She’s absolutely charismatic onscreen; she is riveting, she is fresh, she is smart, (and) she is unbelievably feminine while also having that toughness to her. She’s a TV star, but most definitely we know she’s a Fox star.

I only hope he don’t mean that the same way he feels about Tim Minear, who also has a deal with Fox, but his shows never stay around for long. Like his most recent project, Drive.

With a development deal Dushku could also get more involved in the project making and decision process, as explained Walden: “You have to have a tremendous amount of passion for a person you make a deal like this with. You’re not just sending them a script and asking them if you like a role. You’re bringing them into the development process and integrating them into the fiber of the company“.

So now that everyone agrees on how tremendously awesome Dushku is, and how excited we’re all about this, let’s hope a good script comes her way, from comedy to drama or action, and that in regard of her awesomeness they do trust the result for more than a couple of episodes on the air…
