Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog – Act III

By fred | July 19, 2008

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along BlogThat’s it, the third and final act of Joss Whedon’s awesome Internet musical is live, you can watch all the three parts of the show right now, and for less than 48 hours. Sunday at midnight, it will all go away, so be sure to check it out asap.

Will Dr. Horrible show the world, starting with Bad Horse, that his PhD in horribleness makes him a natural member of the Evil League Of Evil ? Will Penny be able to save the homeless shelter ? Will Captain Hammer be defeated by his arc-nemesis ? Will we ever find out why Dr Horrible’s blog is so moist ? Do you like frozen yogurt ?

For answers to all of those questions, or most of them, head on to DrHorrible.com right now and watch Act III of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog !

Little more talk about it, including some spoilers if you haven’t yet watch all thee acts (but what the Hell are you still waiting for!?), after the jump.

Ever since the first act I’ve said how much I loved this thing, and now that I’ve seen it in its entirety, I can only say : it was awesome. This third act was a little different, a different tone to it as the first two parts were absolutely hilarious, and in the end the show took a turn for tragedy, such an heart-breaking event that just made me love this thing even more.

This show turned out to be one of the most refreshing and delightful thing I’ve seen in years, it was all kinds of awesome and, really, I now see why we had to suffer through this horrible writers’ strike back a few months ago. Without the strike, the world might have never met Dr Horrible, which would have make the place just a little more unbearable to live in.

Clearly it was a success, first because the show was great, awesome, hilarious, heart-breaking, and so much more, but also it worked, it is incredibly popular : as Neil Patrick Harris tells it, “I got an e-mail from Joss that said, “Gang, we broke the Internet.” That’s all it said. Which is awesome!” All server problems have been since resolved, of course, and the show kept toping the iTunes downloads all week.

The project was shot over six days in the spring, and cost in the low six figures according to the L.A. Times, and no one had any idea of the success it would have, as Whedon told USA Today : “We had this home-baked idea that we love and we’re proud of. We made this on the understanding that we’d never make a dime. But it’s blown up beyond our expectations.

Of course though, they all knew that this was something special. “While we were filming it, I thought we were sitting on something unique and good, and I know that Joss cared about it enough that he wouldn’t [mess] it up in editing or change its trajectory.” NPH said.

What’s to come for Dr Horrible ? For now all three acts are live and available on iTunes, a DVD filled with extras is is the work – rumor has it the commentary tracks might be sung – and then, well, who knows! Nothing is planned for now, but Harris didn’t close the door to a sequel : “Joss has some strange, giant master plan that includes much more than a sequel. Joss thinks on a great many levels, so when he was pitching it to us, he said, “And this will take over the world, and there will be sequels and musicals on stage and feature films and we’ll get our own television network and they’ll name awards after us” and things like that.

(All in honesty: I’m not sure there should be a sequel, it’s too perfect like it is now, nothing should come after that.)

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is a lovely brilliant musical, it’s so much more, I love it, I just can’t wait for the DVDs. Did you guys watched the three parts just once, or about a dozen times already ? Do you love it ? Do you want a sequel ?

One last thing, when asked who was more awesome, Barney Stinson or Dr Horrible, here’s what Neil Patrick Harris said : “Dr. Horrible on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 10, and Barney’s, like, 27.” He’s the man!
