Did Lost just loose Alpert?

By fred | July 18, 2007

Richard AlpertYou guys probably know Nestor Carbonell ? No ? How about Richard Alpert ?

Carbonell, who plays Alpert, the guy that never ages and can leave the Island and come back as he whishes, on ABC’s hit drama Lost. Well, at least, he used to.

See, Carbonell has now joined the cast of CBS new show Cane, an epic drama about the external rivalries and internal power struggles of a large Cuban-American family running an immensely successful rum and sugar business in South Florida.

So, what does this mean for Lost ?? Because Richard was slowly growing as a pretty interesting and mysterious character. I mean, the guy doesn’t age FFS! He wasn’t just a random Other like the rest of the group, it looked like he was on the Island long before even Ben, and therefore could have a rather important part to play in the whole thing.

And now he’s on a new show! And it seems pretty unlikely that he would return to Lost at all! Because he can’t just go from one to the other, even though finding time for both shows shouldn’t be a problem.

No, the ultimate decision is in the network hands, sadly. Because that’s never a good thing, as proven by CBS president Nina Tassler answer when asked by Alan Sepinwall whether or not she would let Carbonell do a guest spot if Lost producers asked.

Probably not“, she said, arguing that it would probably confuse the audience the see the same actor on two different shows as once. Yeah right, cause the audience is made of a bunch of retard not quite aware with the whole concept of “actors” and “characters” and, you know, “fiction”.

I bet she wouldn’t feel that way is Lost was on CBS though. Then, somehow, the audience wouldn’t mind that much.

Really, I hate those stories. Lost is a brilliant show, and ABC agreed to give a final number of season & episodes so that writers could make end things as they wish and make it stay a great show, but if everything falls apart and they have to rewrite it all because of such BS…

And the next season of Lost has not yet started filming, so what does that mean ? We just won’t see him again, only hear some one say “he’s gone” ?

I have never seen Cane, and somehow I’m not sure I ever will. I even find myself praying for it to be canceled after say 2 or 3 episodes, just so that Carbonell would be out of CBS’s hands…
