CSI: you leave and I come back, then we’ll switch place?

I’ll be honest : I do not watch CSI, any of them. I used to, except for CSI: Miami cause that one sucks, but with time I kinda stopped because there’s a lot of things to watch and only so little time, and it just fall off of my list. I don’t think the shows suck, I will occasionally watch an episode, maybe, but I’m not a fan and I don’t really follow what’s happening.
But I heard last season of CSI was huge because Sara was leaving - in fact, her leaving might be the last episode I actually watch. Anyways, so she left as Jorja Fox wanted to move on to other things. And now William Petersen, aka Grissom, the star and soul of the show (to me), is leaving too.
Here’s the funny part though : for next season premiere, guess who will be back ??
That’s right, according to Michael Ausiello no other than Jorja Fox has agreed to come back for “multiple” episodes. So after leaving the show, Sara will come back. Then Grissom will leave, but he too is opened to make multiple guest appearances in the future.
I guess I just find it funny, though with the departure of Gary Dourdan (Warrick) - who will make an appearance on the upcoming season premiere as well, by the way - I just feel like it’s a good thing I’m not watching it no more, because I’m not sure I would find all those comes and gos that funny… or be that into a show loosing three of its original cast members at once (pretty much).
After becoming a franchise very much like Law & Order, and still very much like it, CSI is trying to be a show about the concept first, not the cast, hoping they can last for years and years with different actors over time. Somehow, I don’t feel that way. I mean, I would see CSI more like E.R. — yes, I know E.R. is still on, but really, what airs on NBC right now is nothing like what E.R. truly was, back with the Anthony Edwards, George Clooney, Noah Wyle, Eriq La Salle and Julianna Margulies to name a few…
But that’s me, and I don’t really watch CSI. So, if you do, what’s your take on this ? Can the show survive without Grissom ? Is it more about lab tests and DNA samples, or the people watching the little bugs ?

Dourdan is leaving because he has had too many Drug busts. Too bad CBS didn’t really try to get him some help(maybe they did). As far as the switch, yeah, things are really getting weird for the CSI’s, especially Miami’s season ending episode. Sort of like ABC’s Lost….dangle the carrot then snatch it back and hope you’ll tune in next Season.
