Creator of Heroes apologizes to fans - Heroes is doomed!
By fred | November 8, 2007
While on the picket line with other writers, creator of Heroes Tim Kring took a minute or took to call EW and let them know that he knew the second season of his show was a huge disappointment, a pile of crap and that if he could do it he’d do it completely differently.
Well, those aren’t the exact words he used, but overall it sounds like that, because he basically agreeing with all of the fans (and critics) complaints, giving in on everything, begging for forgiveness and swearing that once the current chapter, or season if the strike cuts it down, is over it will all be different, better, of course.
But how much is this does he actually mean ?
Because it seems to me more like they all were certain to have the biggest hit ever, and than fans would keeping loving the show no matter what, there was so much love in the air. They even went on a huge world tour to promote it, and everywhere all around the globe it was unanimous : people loved the show.
So they hired dozens and dozens of actors, to get even more hype & buzz about it, so they started lots & lots of promotional initiatives, to get always more money in. Truth be told, they in fact keep doing so, with a Heroes magazine :
“We are very excited to team with Titan on this magazine. Heroes is proud to be able to provide more access to the creative process and behind the scenes for the fans, and this magazine is the perfect way to include the audience in the Heroes world” said the same Tim Kring about it.
But meanwhile, the season sucks. Viewers are dropping, fans are getting pissed, something had to be done to stop the bleeding before it was too late. So Kring called in EW and said all the things fans wanted to hear, not because he believes in it, but because he needs people to stop going away from the show, he needs them back, he definitely needs fans of the show to want more of Heroes and get their interest back, or else the show might not survive the strike.
So Kring admitted to everything :
The pace is too slow
We assumed the audience wanted season 1 — a buildup of intrigue about these characters and the discovery of their powers. We taught [them] to expect a certain kind of storytelling. They wanted adrenaline. We made a mistake.”
Well, duh!! Why the Hell would we want season one, we’ve seen it already. If we ever feel like wanting some season one again, we got the DVDs ! What we wanted was more, it was what comes next, we wanted the same feeling we got from season one : discovering new things. Not the same things but to different people, or the same ones with amnesia!
The world-saving stakes should have been established sooner
Kring said he could now see that Peter’s vision of a dead future should have come sooner, saying they “took too long to get to the big-picture story“.
Yes, because it’s not season one, so things need to move on. You think every single comic-book about Spider-man started with Peter getting bitten by a spider ? Of course not, only the first one did, after that he was Spider-man already !
And I’d like to add that furthermore than having stakes way sooner that they did, trying to tweak them a bit more would have been nice, too. Because again a vision of again a dead New-York feels like a great lack of imagination… especially when the cheerleader is going to be a central element of the rescue.
