By fred | November 26, 2008

As everyone knows it’s that time of year again, Christmas is coming and maybe you’re looking for a gift idea, to please the TVoholic in you, or one of your friends. To help you in your quest, or just to droll over those sets without having the chance to actually get them, as some of them can be quite pricey, I’ll give you a few ideas of complete series packs that any TVoholic should have…

The Sopranos - The Complete Series

The Sopranos Box Set

This show is about a guy like many others, the every day working man. He’s turning 40, he’s trying to manage the business he inherited from his dad the best he could, having to deal with all the responsibilities, the competition, and of course dealing with his two teenage kids and his wife whom he’s been cheating on. Add on top of that an overbearing mother he can’t get away from and it’s understandable he might suffers from depression and panic attacks, and needs to see a therapist.

Oh yeah, and he’s the Don of New Jersey, too.

In a land where most shows are about the good cops who’re doing everything right and put criminals behind bars, it’s refreshing to see characters who feel real, and aren’t always trying to do the right thing, or what most people would consider to be right. Of course, killing people and dealing drugs for a living isn’t something most people do. Yet, there’s something that makes it easy to relate to those crazy motherfuckers beating people up and killing each others…

The Sopranos is more than just a TV show, it’s a phenomenon that took us by surprise and changed the world (of television) for ever. Brilliant, complex writing from creator David Chase, fantastic performances from about everyone on the show, starting with the face of the show, James Gandolfini, and on top of everything a delightful music selection and you understand why this show has been called “perhaps the greatest pop-culture masterpiece of its day” by Vanity Fair, “the richest achievement in the history of television” by The New-Yorker, or why The New York Times declared that it “just may be the greatest work of American popular culture of the last quarter century.

The Sopranos is the most financially successful cable series in the history of television with more Emmy nominations (112) than episodes (86), it was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series every year of its run and won the Emmy Award twice, making it the first cable series to win the award. With 21 Emmy and 5 Golden Globes there’s no question that this show is filled with quality all over.

You can now dive again into the underground of the mob on New Jersey with this 33 discs set, including never-seen-before scenes from all 6 seasons, exclusive interviews with David Chase (conducted by Alec Baldwin), commentaries, spoofs and parodies of the show, a 56-page collector’s album and more. Anything else would have simply been illegal.

The Sopranos - The Complete Series is available now at Amazon for $254.99 now — 36% off the retail price of $399.98 !
