By fred | November 30, 2008

As everyone knows it’s that time of year again, Christmas is coming and maybe you’re looking for a gift idea, to please the TVoholic in you, or one of your friends. To help you in your quest, or just to droll over those sets without having the chance to actually get them, as some of them can be quite pricey, I’ll give you a few ideas of complete series packs that any TVoholic should have…

Gilmore Girls - The Complete Series Collection

Gilmore Girls - Box Set

Sure, like that this box set looks quite girly, looking like a Barbie doll package or something, but don’t let that fool you because anyone rejecting this show based on such assumptions would be missing on “one of the top 100 television series of all time“, as Time Magazine named Gilmore Girls.

Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, this show was a unique and unforgettable moment of television history, an instant wonder that wasn’t unnoticed by the Television Critics Association Awards, despite being on The WB, as it won the New Program Of The Year award.

With a unique style of fast-paced dialog where Lorelai and Rory would throw more pop culture references in a minute than most shows do in their entire existence, this was the simple story of a loving mother willing to do anything for her daughter. Lorelai is probably the single best female character ever seen on TV, she was strong, smart, sincere, funny, generous, strong-willed, the perfect girlfriend, and, really, the mother every kid wished they could have had.

Having her daughter, the adorable and over-achieving Rory, at age 16 and on her own, having cut all contact with her own parents and while the father was away, she had to take care of everything, and she made sure Rory would never miss anything. But Lorelai wasn’t alone, she could count on pretty much the entire town of Stars Hollow and the dozens of people more unique than the next and always, for most of them, willing to help.

It is just impossible to put into words just how magical and delightful this show truly is, or even what it was about. It was about family, it was about friendship, it was about music, coffee, social classes, it was about pop culture, Yale, being your own strong independent self, love, life, Friday night dinners and more coffee. Going beyond the basic mother/daughter relationship, Lorelai and Rory are each others’ best friend, they essentially grew up together, experiencing and sharing everything together, from heartbreaks to achieving their personal dreams.

From the minute you first met with them at Luke’s dinner (where else!?) you fell in love, with both of them and with the entire town, and that lasted for seven years and more, melting your heart and filling it with millions of memories that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

Another absolute must-have for everyone who loves TV, life, or just has a heart; And if you have yet to experience this fantastic journey, get ready to have your life change with this 42-disc set featuring all the 153 episodes, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, episode commentaries, documentaries and interview with series creator and masterminds Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, as well as a collectible “Gilmore-ism” book to help you better appreciate the so many pop-culture references features during the seven seasons of the show.

Gilmore Girls - The Complete Series Collection is available now at Amazon for $144.99 — 44% off the total retail price of $258.82 !
