Bruckheimer to bring Indy on the small screen

Well, sort of. Nothing is done yet, this is only the beginning. But famous and successful producer Jerry Bruckheimer, behind shows such as Cold Case, Without A Trace or all of the CSI’s, is working on a new project for a one hour TV adventure drama about treasure hunters, for CBS.
The show, still unnamed, will revolve around a globetrotting team of freelance treasure hunters. The team will have for leader an ex-Navy SEAL now turned into an archaeologist.
Bruckheimer, producers of National Treasure and The Amazing Race, is teaming up with Sleeper Cell creators Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff on this project. Obviously they all know very well how do create great TV series and have knowledge of the genre they’re going into.
The pilot will be written by Voris and Reiff, also executive producers along with Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman, executive at Jerry Bruckheimer Television.
Their idea for the show is not to create yet another Indiana Jones clone, but to portrayed his successors, the new kind of treasure hunters. They want to have their show to be grounded in real-world politics and avoid all clichés of the genre those kind of shows usually fall for.
“Those shows felt like tired retreads of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” shot on a TV budget. We’ll die before we do that“, told Reiff.
Voris said he and his partner were intrigued by the idea of “taking that Indiana Jones paradigm and making it feel cool and real. We want to make use of the current international situation as a backdrop.”
Reiff is a history buff, and the show will make frequent use of history facts and references to set up its story lines and mysteries. In the end, this sounds like it could be a pretty interesting show, seeing how all people involved have already created very successful shows of quality, and they all are obviously willing to create something new and different.
I hope it’ll get made, and can’t wait to see it.
