Bones’ new producer knows his facts
By fred | July 24, 2007
As I previously mentioned, David Boreanaz isn’t just an actor on Bones anymore. Nope, for this new season he’s got a shinny “co-producer” title.
Won’t probably change anything really though, especially since he seems to not even know about the roots of the show…
During a press tour his co-star Emily Deschanel talked about Kathy Reichs’s books - about a forensic anthropologist - on which Bones are (kinda) based. Deschanel said she had read them, and that her character on the show is “very different” from the Temperance Brennan of the books.
At that point, Boreanaz jumped in :
Boreanaz: I read the books!
Deschanel: No, you don’t.
Boreanaz: Yes, I do!
Deschanel: No, you don’t!
Boreanaz: I do, too. I read the books.
Executive producer Stephen Nathan: Really?
Deschanel: Oh yeah, that’s right, you read the books all the time…
Boreanaz: I give you all the insight into all the books!
Critic: Well, David, since you read the books…
Boreanaz: Yes, what would you like to know?
Critic: How about the psychology of your character — how you’re playing him vis-a-vis what you’re reading in the books?
Boreanaz: I’m an FBI guy, so my experiences are pretty much in tune with what’s going on relatively in my life, if that makes any sense to you, as far as portraying a character that makes sense in the moment and basically focusing on a relationship that I can have with Bones here.
In order to get that relationship sparked and get that relationship moving, the two of us work very hard on the weekends in order to find that chemistry, find what works between the two of us and apply that. For me, it’s always character-driven stuff that allows me to kind of examine Booth — examine him in his situations, examine him in his scenes, whatever the writers put out there for us. So for me, it’s always developing the character through the relationship that’s — stuff that’s going on in my life.
Series creator Hart Hanson: Does it make me sound too cranky if I say that the series is not based on the books? Because the series is not based on the books. Booth is not in the books.
Deschanel: He’s not in the books at all.
Boreanaz: I thought I was. I thought I was the mystery man. Isn’t there, like a mystery man in the book or something?
Hanson: There’s a French Canadian cop.
Boreanaz: Oh, okay — I didn’t even know there were books.
Oh well, producers or not, cool to see they’re all having fun! =)
