Ben Silverman to get a raise for its failures
By fred | November 17, 2008
Anyone still wondering why NBC is in the toilet ?
This is either quite funny, or sad depressingly sad and pathetic, depending on how you decide to look at things. According to Page Six, NBC Entertainment co-chair Ben Silverman will not only not be blamed for the Peacock’s lackluster fall schedule, but he is putting all the blame on someone else - Universal Media Studio President Katherine Pope - and that works so well that while she might get fired or something, Silverman could get a raise !!
Just how mind-blowing is that ?? The guy is a moron who should get fired for its poor work, because the network’s failing schedule is all on him, but instead he is apparently still praised, as one network insider told Page Six that “the company is very happy with Ben. He is deep in negotiations to re-up his contract with NBC, and he has the network up 50 percent profit from year to year.”
Just shoot me now.
No really, I don’t care what he’ll try to say, Silverman is the one who, before, liked to brag about the extensive movie star he managed to get into his new series, like Selma Blair in Kath & Kim or Christian Slater in My Own Worst Enemy. Just like he was proud of having ideas like many more remakes, hence the addition of an US version of Kath & Kim, or a revived Knight Rider on NBC.
Kath & Kim is god-damned awful and Knight Rider is so bad that you have to feel insulted just that such crap is on the air, it’s unbelievable. And despite the “so bad it becomes funny” effect of the first few weeks, the show is a failure — last installment getting merely 5.3 million viewers and 1.5 on the demo. Seriously, with results like that can anyone come up with any good reason why this crap why picked up for a full season, except that it’s Silverman’s baby and he loves the show ?? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
No doubt he’s the man. Just like this he is the guy who had the “splendid” idea, to come up with new series for the net, to just have a list of “the most engaging stories ever told” compiled, and then decided to pick the top ones and turn them into new series — because that’s how you get creative and bring new ideas to the table, right?
Jee, what a moron! So, on that list were things like the story of Robinson Crusoe, hence NBC new series Crusoe, failing on Fridays like nothing else, barely getting 4 million viewers and having a hard time to get a 1.0 on the demo. Just pathetic. Also on the list was Dr Jekyll And Mister Hyde, hence the new series - and supposedly NBC latest hit drama - My Own Worst Enemy, starring Christian Slater as a man with split personalities.
Too bad the show sucks as well, with only 4.25 million viewers and a stunning 1.8 on the demo last Monday. Doing a fine job there, M. Silverman, no wonder the show has been canceled already!
Clearly with so much successes already this season, anyone with half a brain could see why he should be thrown out, but then again, why not blame Pope instead?
Plus Silverman is bragging about how he’s supposedly been able to cut costs at the network, welcoming product placement everywhere, and it seems NBC chairman Jeff Zucker is buying it, and Silverman might stay at NBC, with a nice pay raise.
I guess they’re really trying to fail even more miserably than they currently are. After all, we’re talking about the guys who did an horrible job with the Bejing Olympics, bragged about it, generated $1 billion dollar in revenue from the games and yet still managed to lose money !!
You gotta admire the efforts they put at failing… I guess.
Can you believe this crap ?!? How do you think Silverman managed to keep his job ? Surely he must have some incriminating pictures or something, right?
