Bad Words at NBC: 30 Rock vs My Name Is Earl
By fred | September 5, 2008
Remember a couple of days ago, when I mentioned how Alec Baldwin went on to not only insult pretty much everyone working at NBC, but also trash-talking Scrubs and My Name Is Earl ? Well as you could have easily imagined, those words didn’t really please a few people, starting with My Name Is Earl creator/exec producer Greg Garcia.
And so today, Garcia is talking back to Baldwin, and we’re not talking about trying to calm things down, not at all, it’s just insults and shit all over, although Garcia is smart enough not to go after 30 Rock, only Baldwin.
Still, it’s pretty funny to see how everyone at NBC is starting to insult one another, I sure hope soon they’ll all fight, so that we can start from scratch. I mean, seeing how things are going at NBC these days, killing everyone and starting over might not be such a bad idea…
As for what Garcia said, here we go :
First, answering Baldwin’s complaint that there weren’t more people watching 30 Rock :
Maybe the reason enough people aren’t watching 30 Rock to make Mr. Baldwin happy is because Alec Baldwin is so unlikable as a person. 30 Rock is a really funny show. And Alec Baldwin is funny as long as someone else is writing his words. When left to his own devices, he sounds like a psychotic narcissist who whines about being rich for 8 pages in The New Yorker.
Ouch… and it continues, bringing back old fun memories…
Instead of blaming NBC, I think Alec should consider that some people in America may not want to watch a man who cusses out his own 11 year old daughter on a phone message, calling her a “rude thoughtless little pig.” It’s a shame that the people who produce such a funny show have to put up with such a distasteful man on a daily basis. It makes me thankful to have such a wonderful cast on My Name Is Earl, a show that is still going strong and has helped bring an audience to 30 Rock over the last few years. You’re welcome, Alec.
And now, it’s where Garcia goes too far I say:
Oh, and the reason NBC occasionally puts on an hour-long episode of Earl is because an hour of Earl gets better ratings than an Earl followed by a 30 Rock. It’s called math, stupid.
Yeah really, that one sucks. Two reasons:
a/ we’ve had plenty of hour-long episodes of Earl that were really far from good last season, so there’s no reason to be proud of that.
b/ Nielsen is crap, just because they say that show does better than this one doesn’t mean anything, and surely doesn’t justify that this show shouldn’t be well-treated or supported by its network. If a show is good and you pout it on the air, then support it, promote it, allow it to grow and meet its audience, don’t bend to the shitty Nielsen God FFS! That’s pure network BS, don’t encourage it!
