After The Strike, When Will Your Favorite Shows Return ??
By fred | February 8, 2008
Word is that the strike might be over very soon, as soon as this week-end end. This would mean that by Monday, people would be going back to work. Let’s not get our hopes hight until anything is said, but in the mean time let’s pretend this is a done deal : what does it mean for our favorite shows ? When will they be back this season ? Will they even be back this season ?? What shows are we talking about here ?
There’s no shame to admit you may have forgotten about a few shows, it happens to everyone, even How I Met Your Mother creator Carter Bays is getting confused. “It’s been a long strike. I can barely remember all our characters’ names, much less what we were planning to do with them. Is our show the one with Jim and Pam ? If so, we’ll probably have them hook up. Awkward!”
You know what’s so great in what he’s saying ? He’s actually talking about going back to work ! If writers too are trying to talk about the strike in past tense, we might start to hope a little, I guess.
Obviously, if almost all shows have ran out of episodes there could be a way to get a few more episodes done before the season is over, but it will be up to each network to decide whats shows it needs/wants to bring back for the rest of the season.
Using ESP, a rabbit foot, some magic powder, a Mars bar and different info gathered here and there, I’ve compiled a list of shows and what to expect from them in the near future, hopefully. (Yeah, remember nothing is done yet, writers are still striking.)
The main idea doesn’t seem so hard to understand : hit-series will be back, soon, as soon as possible. Especially if they air on ABC. The prevailing wisdom says it will take anywhere from two to four weeks to resume production on existing comedies and dramas.
While some are expected to resume into production very soon, hits like House, Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, or Desperate Housewives, other shows might not come back that fast. Most of the new series picked up for a full season order (Life, Pushing Daisies, Chuck, Dirty Sexy Money, etc) as well as heavily serialized shows (24, Heroes) are rumored to resume production in the summer.
However, some are thinking that networks may want to get as many episodes of all of their series in the can as possible, in case of a potential strike coming up. Yes, another one, from the SAG this time, in the summer.
They would also go back into production, but not air anything right away. This is for instance what Fox intends to do with their hit-drama 24, which is likely to resume production asap despite the fact that the real-time drama won’t air new episodes this year.
Half-hour comedies are expected to go back into production very quickly, and should get new episodes out relatively fast. The Office might be the first one to shoot, since as you know they still have one script, written before the strike but never shot, ready and waiting.
As promised I’ve compiled a list for you, with as much info as I could find, so here we go.
