24 back sooner than expected (sort of)

As you all Jack Bauer’s fans know, Fox hit-drama was supposed to have its season 7 premiere a few months back, but with the writers’ strike and all, it didn’t happen. And Fox refused to air a partial season, to air the only few episodes they had (8), because they wanted to preserve its now usual non-stop scheduling, which is a really good thing IMO because let’s face it, we would have hated it to see Jack’s new day end up in the middle of things, and most likely when it’d be back we would have had forgotten all about it in the mean time, since there would have been months in between two episodes.
Fox was right not to air a partial season, there’s no doubt that a non-stop airing of the show is part of its success. But with season seven not planned to return before January 2009, and last (horrible) season to have ended things back in May 2007, it meant that Bauer was to be away from our screens for quite a long time. Too long, in fact, and Fox knows this and decided to fix it.
No, the season won’t be airing any sooner, January 2009 is still the date for its premiere, but you’ll get your dose of Jack Bauer before that. In previous years Fox has released short “prequels” to each season, online, as part of their marketing effort to get people excited about the show and start the buzz.
This time, there won’t be no such online gift, because season 7 prequel will be a bit longer than others. It will last for two hours and air on Fox as a made-for-TV movie !
As always, season seven will start quite after season six ended, and to fill the gap in between those two important days in the life of Jack Bauer, a two-hour movie will be produced and air either during November sweeps or maybe even earlier (no official dates have been set yet).
So for all 24 fans out there, get ready, because Jack Bauer is coming near you sooner than you thought, and he’s pissed!
