The new MacGyver…

(S01E01) Ok so I’ll be honest with you, when I watched the pilot of this new show, I didn’t know anything about it but its title, Burn Notice, and that’s it. So I went into it completely open-minded, just hoping to enjoy the hour I was gonna spend watching it.
An I have to say, it started pretty good. Sure, a spy getting abandoned by his people, finding himself on its own, alone the bad guys who now wants to kill him isn’t very new. But, it was well made, there was a good photo, good acting, and the use of the voice-over was actually an interesting touch on how the story was being told.
But then, the show slowly turned into what it will eventually be. So our spy got himself some PI work to do, using his old relations and knowledge to be successful in everything he’s starting, with never one thing that fails or go wrong.
Right now, it’s starting to be a bit more cliché, doesn’t it?
It will only gets worst. Because what could have been interesting is fading away, as you see that he won’t be a spy going all over the world, but just yet another spy staying in Miami.
It get worst in so many ways by the end of the episode, not only did I hated the show already but I wanted to punch my TV in the face for such a lame time.
See, where to begin?? Well first, there’s the old girlfriend that comes back into the picture, and ends up teaming up with him (again, although they’re not back together, yet).
And not only did she show up, but she called the mother. So there we go, we have the mother that keeps calling her baby-boy and so he has to drive her around, and loose a tail while driving her to the hospital.
My guess is, seeing how it went with the voice over insisting on how this goes easier without your mom yelling at you the whole time, that was supposed to be the comedy part of the show.
Problem is, not funny. At all. It could have been done better, but it still wouldn’t have been funny, because this has become such an overdone cliché it just can’t be, funny, anymore. Not that way.
It’s really a shame, actually. Because the show had some potential. Let’s take another look at that scene, there were some good points in it. Like the way it generally went, with the voice over explaining that what counts here isn’t to go as fast as possible, but drive like an idiot and wait for your follower to make a mistake.
Nice touch, nice change too. Just like seeing a spy acting as one : when in fight, he goes not for a long fight with stupid punches thrown all over the place because it looks good on TV and shit.
No, instead he goes for the one or two shoot, planned & thought to be silent & efficient. Because what he wants is bring the enemy down fast & quiet, with no scratch on himself.
All of that were good signs. But sadly the show turned into the usual PI kinda show, instead of trying to be more innovative.
And it delivered one cliché after another.
