When 24 becomes a family drama…

By fred | January 24, 2007

24 has always been an action drama, with plenty of crazy (literally) things happening to have the action part keeping us high on adrenaline, ridiculous plans of actions that must stay in the dark without telling anyone even though there’s no reasons for it simply in order to maintain the required level of paranoia, and from time to time some people die - or almost die, when it comes to Jack - to create drama.

Family meeting on 24The show has never been away from family matters either. If you remember season one, a somewhat important part of the story was about candidate Palmer & his family. The whole secret/blackmail issue with his son, the past of his daughter, and of course his wife and her messy and unstoppable appetite for power.

But this week 24 went another step further into family drama, and there are some signs many of you I’m sure noticed. Signs that aren’t good, signs one could interpret as 24 turning into some crappy soap opera !

First of all, Jack has a brother. Sure, why not. But here’s the… how to say, “tricky” part. Jack’s brother is no other than the bad guy from previous season himself, the one trying to get Jack killed, the one mastering that whole operation to get to terrorists some weapons and let them play with those deadly toys on US soil, the one giving orders to the President, orders like “now it’s time to kill yourself, Mr. Presidentâ€?.

Why I saw that, I wasn’t sure how to actually react to such another incredible plot. And once again, I mean not-credible. But in the end I laugh.
What else could I do? I have nothing against Jack having a family, a twisted one even. After all, everyone have his own, in its own way.

But with Jack being who he is – you know, saving the world every other day, making friend with the President of the USA, having cell phone numbers of a few other members of the club, etc – that Jack, the one & only Jack Bauer, would have a brother that’s also involved into some weird conspiracy, linked to terrorists, dealing & having also some kind of access to US Presidents…

And he soap opera doesn’t stop there! Now we hear that Graham’s wife had a crushed on Jack, and that of course she never got over him, even after marrying his brother. How cute.
