Weeds: Yes I Can
By fred | July 29, 2008
(S04E07) I think this episode has a very misleading title, because it makes it sounds like things are possible, and in fact it even has that little sound that says it’s possible to do new things, better things, to improve what’s been done before, to change from mistakes of yesterday and prepare a better tomorrow. That’s what this little title seems to imply with those three little words, and that couldn’t be further from the truth, really.
It’s not really new, it’s been around for a few weeks now, this feeling that despite everything that has been said about this new season, despite the relocation of the Botwins and their friends, things weren’t getting any better. In fact, it was the same load of crap we’ve been getting for way too long last season already, and we had enough of.
I really wanted to see this season be an improvement over the past, and the show be great & funny again, but alas, we’re far, far, from from it.
I don’t even know where to start with this episode… because it’s not that I would be opposed to a story that doesn’t really make sense, or that is more silly than it is realistic, but the problem here is that each and every single story falls into that category, each and every one of them is completely unrealistic, unbelievable for one second, and more stupid than the other. Adding them all on top of each other, and this show looks like a pile of BS, I’m sorry to say.
- Let’s start with Shane. So now we are to actually be okay with the idea that somehow Nancy would really ask Shane, a 12 years old kid, to do remodeling in the house ? Because when she said it, I took at as the only thing it could have been : a joke. But then, we see Shane - who was up until now an actual (very) smart kid - take that agreement seriously and he’s starting to think himself as really in charge, willing to hire people, take walls down, … And don’t think anyone is going to tell him this is crazy, including Nancy, because that’s all fine now…
Another thing about Shane : what the fuck did we see at the end ? Was he going to masturbate to his own mother ?!!? Seriously, who the fuck does that ? That’s sick, I don’t care that Marie-Louise Parker looks hot or not, he’s 12 and she’s his mother… that’s just plain sick. Is that all they could find to try to be subversive or something ? It’s pretty pathetic then…
- Celia and Isabelle. Yes, what about them ? That was a big lot of nothing. And what the hell was that scene with the cop ?? Why did we had to see him at night with his lover ? WTF ? Are we gonna have to suffer through stupid boring meaningless plots about his love life as well now ?? I thought we were done with this one, why bring him back ?
- Speaking of bringing back people. So Nancy isn’t pleased enough with her new position and making even more money that she first dared to ask for, because she’s a moron I guess, so she wants to go back to selling. Because last time, she was so good it was so well without any trouble at all whatsoever, it’s not like she had a gun to her head, people died and the whole place was burned down, of course not…
Anyways, she wants back, and so we got to see people like… Sanjay, or Marvin !! WTF!?? Seriously, are we supposed to think she’s willing to drive back all the way to Majestic just to sell pot ?? Or that, even more unbelievable, those guys drove all the way down here just to buy some weed ?? I mean sure, Sanjay is not too smart and without Nancy he might be lost, but his wife surely can take care of things, Marvin I’m pretty sure he was involved in all kinds of drug trafficking before he even heard of Nancy, and back there I’m guessing they have people who can grow stuff and do their shit just fine, starting with Heylia or Conrad maybe…
Really, except for bringing back known faces from previous season, that was useless, and either way completely stupid.
- Nancy. Nancy Nancy Nancy… the idiot who never learns. I’m just not going at it, because it’s way too much. She’s a freaking moron, and yet somehow it always turn out to work out for the best for her, no matter what. She brings her “smart” ass (cause she can google stuff, so be impressed!) and starts threatening people who basically belong to the organized crime, they deal drugs and I’m pretty sure they kill whoever gets in their way on weekends, for fun.
In real life, she would be lucky not to be shot dead right the way or buried alive, she’s be lucky to get home and find all of her sons not missing any parts, but because this is Weeds somehow it all work out for the best for Nancy, no matter what, and I’m actually surprised she didn’t fuck the boss in his limo, I’m sure it’s coming very soon though.
- Silas. Well, nothing really interesting here but I guess that, at least, it’s believable. By the way, at some point earlier on this season, wasn’t he still growing his own pot, in a van or something ? Some weeds that seemed to be pretty good, and he even might have met some future customers. Has that just been dropped so that Nancy could start selling back to Majestic for some reason ? I can’t wait for the new DEA agent to come down her pants…
- Doug & Andy. This shit is probably meant to be funny, maybe it’s because of everything else, but I just find it utterly stupid, and not funny. Seeing them going “immigration!” and be surprised they run away, trying to ask illegal immigrants how much they should charge and what it is they should do and how they should do it and where and when ? Clearly they’re freaking morons, and it’s not making me laugh….
This is very season three all over again : the deception, the disappointment from it, the feeling of boredom and the impression of going nowhere with this show… it’s just sad.

Sorry but you keep missing things in your reviews. Actually, as you have noticed, we find out Till is gay. And that is the secret that Nancy knows which she is able to threaten him to keep silent and to stop him from pursuing Celia/Nancy’S case. Till obviously doesn’t want people to find out he is gay as a high ranking enforcement officer. The man Till was in bed with, was Peter’s old partner, we can see him in the karaoke scene looking very unhappy.
BTW: Season four is boring as hell. :(
Well, okay I’m sure I miss stuff, but as you said yourself this season has been far from exciting and I’m losing interest so I’m sure I miss plenty *ashamed*
That said, I thought it was because she knew Till & Pete weren’t really all good/clean cops in their times and had done their wrongs too, not because he was gay.
Besides, who would have more to lose : Till if Nancy says he’s guy, or Nancy if he tells she’s a drug dealer who might have been involved in shootings, deaths of DEA agents and burning down an entire town… ?
And either way, I still don’t think those scenes served any purpose here, but I may be wrong.
I agree though, this season Weeds has been boring & disappointing, once again…
