Weeds: The Love Circle Overlap

By fred | August 19, 2008

Weeds(S04E10) Been a little late on this one, but we’re finally here. The fact that I couldn’t be any less excited about this season of Weeds wasn’t really the reason I watched this episode so late, but it might as well have been. It might be hard to realize now, but this used to be a really fun (and funny) show that was very easy to enjoy every week, you were looking forward to your new dose week after week and it was no disappointment.

But for a few seasons now, things have not really been the same. And this season, despite its “reboot” with the move outside of Agrestic, quickly fell back to what we already witnessed last year and so : it gets incredibly boring, it’s rarely - if ever - funny, and watching the episode you don’t really have a good time no more, instead you’re quite stoned by how pathetic this whole show and its characters have come down to…

I don’t really know what else to say art this point, other than this show sucks. Nancy was suffering from migraines this week, and did I hear that wrong, or did Esteban said it was coming from stress ?? Nancy ? Stressed ? Really ??

I find that more than hard to believe, given how she’s got no reason to be stressed : she doesn’t care about nothing!

* She doesn’t care about her kids and whatever it is they do. Shane goes to school, beats kids up, and may or may not have threesomes, either way she doesn’t care. As for Silas and his MILF, I don’t think she could care less, I know I couldn’t. This whole thing has already gotten so old and boring it’s quite amazing!

Of course, the same could be said about any plot we had this season : the cop crap, Celia’s drug problem, Shane masturbating to his mother, Doug & Andy playing coyotes and the whole mess… About that, I would hope they got something in store for Doug and his future wife, because that whole thing wasn’t any good, and who didn’t see things coming this week? I would hope something’s funny will come out of this mess they went through just to bring her back, but I doubt it, sadly…

* She doesn’t care about her friends, clearly : after finding out she’s addicted to coke, she dropped Celia off in some hotel room and left her there, never to look back. Meanwhile everyone reunited to do an intervention or some shit, but - probably trying to bring humor to the scene or something - it was pathetic. People were here to have food, Celia was a pathetic mess, seeing her husband didn’t even do anything, and is it me or could she get out of those handcuffs in a heartbeat ?

* She doesn’t care about her job either, just look at the way she handles her store. She barely shows up, she doesn’t do nothing, not even ensuring she can trust people she put in charge and making sure they’re able to get the job done right, it’s a joke.

* The only thing she actually cares about, is meeting her new boy-toy. Not really reason to get stressed over… And I don’t know, sure on the beach she looked like realizing smuggling people in is a different business than dealing weed, but she’s been out of that long time ago and she wanted it, and she was thrilled was she saw the tunnel which, clearly, wasn’t just for weed. Plus, it’s not like she made the speech before, like that time she told her family she’d be more present and more invested.

Next thing you know, she’s out of the house and couldn’t care less about what their kids do and don’t do, and when she’s talking to them it is in the most uninspired way, like she isn’t even there, like she doesn’t mean one word she’s saying.

This show is now so boring, it’s not the least funny, and I don’t even know why I’m still watching… do you know why you’re still tuning in? Or are you not?
