Weeds: I Am The Table

By fred | August 5, 2008

Weeds(S04E08) Last week I didn’t had some nice words for this show, and I stand by it. Last season it was the same, at first during a few episodes I thought we had an interesting situation, a starting point from which something, something new/different from what’s been done previous seasons, something good could be done. And it was with regret that I saw the season fade away into depressing boredom to end up having me convinced it had been the worst season to date.

This season had its fresh start, a brand new start in another place with new people, everything was new and it was a chance to start out fresh and be exciting again. I had serious doubt about the whole thing after reading about it, but after the first few episodes I had hopes again… How silly of me, because since then it’s all been crushed again, and we’re back to an horrible sensation of waste, waste of good ideas, waste of possibly interesting situations, waste of funny characters, and as a result waste of my time.

Unfortunately, this week only confirmed those feelings.

Okay, let’s start with the good, since there was a little of it : I still find 12 years old Shane to be in charge in remodeling the house one of the stupidest thing ever, so I was glad that we didn’t stay there too long and have him - and Isabelle - back to school. On that note though, I am astonished that they were supposed to go to school : who the Hell did register them and everything ?? Seems to me Nancy couldn’t care less and I doubt she did any paperwork or anything to that effect, and I don’t see Shane doing it himself either given how he didn’t want to go…

Anyways, Shane & Isabelle back together was a good thing, and Shane seeing school as a prison and deciding to behave exactly as it if were the case was a pretty fun thing. Truth be told, that was the highlight of the episode. I hope you enjoyed it, cause the rest of it was nowhere near that.

In other news we had Nancy still an idiot, Guillermo being reprimanded some more, and after admitting her addiction to chaos (or fear of the calm, you decide) finally Nancy got to sleep with the mayor. As long as things involve being shot at and animals eating other animals in a very bloody way, I’m sure that relationship will work out for her.

Then we have Celia, getting high and whatnot. It was pretty boring, no scratch that it was completely boring.

Moving on to Doug & Andy then, and I’m sure those two can be funny, but for some reason that whole “business” of theirs don’t register with me. How can I possibly think that those guys were able to pull off what they did this week, when they were asking illegal immigrants what to do and how to do it not so long ago ? And while they didn’t know yelling “immigration” would scare them off ?? I just can’t buy that, it’s too much.

Also, if they didn’t get paid who’s money did they use to buy all those baseball outfits, backpacks and all other surprise gifts they had ? How did they find those people and get anything working, when they had no clue of anything one week ago ?? How come they don’t get into trouble from anyone, including authorities and not-so-legal “authorities”, I mean other coyotes who own this part of the border ? Because I don’t think they’ll let anyone take their business away from them without reacting ?
(Yeah, sure, we had that one guy Andy shot back… but he shouldn’t be the only problem they have.)

Oh, yeah, and Silas found himself a girl quite as stupid as his mother is, because turning (part of) her store into a growing facility is about the stupidest idea ever, if you ask me. Anyways, I’m really disappointed by this season/show, again, so much I wonder why I still keep watching…

PS: Yes, when talking Shane into going to school Nancy did reference the old “Little Boxes” theme, saying he should become a “doctor, lawyer, or business executive”. Ah, the good times…
