Weeds: A Pool and His Money

By fred | August 22, 2007

Weeds(S03E02) Another pretty interesting episode, where pretty much all of the stories from last season’s finale got resolved, one way or another, and now all the basis for a brand new season are in place, we’re ready to go… roll!

Most stories and “cliffhangers” have been resolved, but that doesn’t mean things have changed, not for everyone. While their stories might have, not everyone had evolved.

On the top of that list, we find no other than Nancy. Nancy’s life has dramatically evolved over the last few weeks, that’s undeniable. But her, she hasn’t much evolved ever since we first saw her.

She had no clue whatsoever as how to run a little drug operation, she kept being “adviced” what to do over & over, by many people from Heylia to Conrad to even customers. And she may have been able to enlarge her business, she still was clueless, relying on others while still being pretty confident she knew what she was doing.

In the end, she end up with a dead DEA husband, she’s in a bigger mess she could have ever imagined, and finally Conrad left her alone. She was clueless when she started, but she still is today, even after all she’s been through. This was obvious when she went back to Heylia, trying to blame the whole thing on her!
That slap was well deserved for certain.

Nancy’s inaptitude to stay low and manage her things not only messed up her own life, but screwed up other people’s lives pretty bad. Besides her late husband, Conrad had been pushed hard many times. First, she married DEA agent Peter, putting Conrad and Heylia in a highly dangerous position. Then, all the mess in her life kept adding and adding, as illustrated during this episode.

WeedsConrad found himself stuck in a room, with an empty gun, U-Turn pointing a loaded gun to his face and telling him he’s his new boss. Because of Nancy’s messed up life, and her son stealing the drug, and her friend Celia trashing it all. So it was pretty natural to finally see him detaching himself from that mess.

His original aspiration were pretty simple, he wanted to grow his own stuff. Nancy kept pushing him towards bigger things and riskier moves, collapsing with the meeting of all guns of the neighborhood.

In the end of this episode the reality of what her life has become, of what she turned her life into, is hitting her right on the head, and of course, it hurts. Because now she’s working for U-Turn, who threaten her kids, she has no idea how to handle something like this, and she can’t turn to Heylia or Conrad or anyone. She is completely lost.

The new season can really start now, with a Nancy drowning in her own pool still filled with leftover of marijuana, her kids freshly out of jail watching.

In other news, Doug crying over Celia about how he still loves his wife was hilarious, Sanjay came out of the closet, twice, and there might be poison in your vitamins. Stay tuned!
