The Unit lost cabin pressure!

By fred | January 18, 2007

I have never been a huge fan of The Unit, but I kept watching it nonetheless. Don’t mean nothing, I watch crap cause I think it’s fun sometimes too. So let’s be honest, it is not a great show. But I never thought it was a bad one either. The whole part about the wives never did interest me much, and it’s been filled with a lot of clichés and likes and nothing more.

The Unit team leader Jonas Blane (Dennis Haysbert)But the interesting part, about this special unit and their missions, was pretty entertaining to watch. Ok, you always could tell what was happening without any problem. And there was no real twist, ever, cause things were way too obvious.
But in a way, it’s just like 24. (Except 24 has lots of twists, each one more unrealistic & less credible than the other…) You can start the endless list all the flaws of the show, but it doesn’t matter in the end, cause it’s just great to watch Jack Bauer going through all the shit to once again save the world.

Pretty much worked the same for me with The Unit, I kept watching every episode and somewhat enjoyed it, but I think last night I finally woke up.

Seriously, last episode (S02E12) was incredible ! And by that I mean I could not believe what I was watching, that this thing actually went all the way through and aired on TV. And that I wasted my time in front of this crap even.

The episode begins with a set up for the new secret mission that out unit will have to accomplish, involving some double-play to supposedly make things real complicated & exciting I guess, but it failed miserably.

So they have to protect a Senator in visit of a foreign country, but in the mean time Blane will have a secret mission of his own… The idea is that the Senator is not leave her hotel, safety reasons, but of course she wants to leave and she refuses to listen to her security guards. She’ll “take care of her hand by telling a bunch of people that she’ll indeed by making an unplanned tour in the city, a very risky thing to do.

And one could think that telling a bunch of people what she intends to do isn’t exactly helping her, or them ensuring their safety, but whatever. So Blane has his extra-secret mission that no one knows about, even his unit-buddies, to go meet someone. That same someone that the Senator plans to meet actually. But nor the Senator or anyone must know about this secret meeting.. that’s supposedly the whole exciting thing, only everything is so predictable it’s not.

The very worst is that one the Senator gets kidnapped, the first people you suspect are responsible for this are… our unit guys! That there’s in fact one more of them, and that he’s the one who kidnapped her. It all makes sense, allows her to forget about the whole meeting she never had & to believe it was a trap, etc

So when you watch the whole thing to finally find out that… it was them indeed. Well, you just feel like you wasted time watching something  you knew from start where it was going, how & why.
