The Office: Business Trip

(S05E07) Last week we ended the episode with what looked like some (new) tension between Jim and Pam, or possibilities of problems between them. Not so much because Alex was interested in Pam and something could ever happen there, but because of what he said, that this was her dream and if she really wanted to make it there, not to ever regret to take all the chances she could get, she had to stay longer.
It could have been been worrying, especially looking at both Jim and Pam’s faces after that little speech, neither of them willing to say anything, but as I explained than I myself was not worried but our lovely couple and their future, I have all the faith in the world they would make it okay, because writers know what they are dealing with there, and they’ve always managed to not go the obvious way, and they always made things right.
So why would they change now ? Why take the risk of sending millions of angry fans after them when you know this isn’t the right thing to do anyway ? Adding to Alex’s speech came the news that she failed her class, and had to stay in New-York and go over it all again, three more months she had to stay there. As expected, even though he obviously wasn’t very happy about it, Jim was supportive of Pam, he knew this was her dream and he didn’t want to come in the way, if she needed those three months she could have them, she had to, not a problem — he said with clear sadness and resignation in his voice.
I have to say though, I was a bit surprised he just let that go, and didn’t leave to go see her. You know, just to see her, be with her, and tell her he loves her. It would not be acting out of jealousy or whatnot like he once started to do before realizing it was a mistake, but just he – and the entire office with and for him – was super excited about seeing her, and I would have imagine he wanted to just spend time with her, his so gorgeous fiancĂ©e.
Anyways, as it turned out this wasn’t really Pam’s dream after all. And that makes total sense, Pam never really wanted to design logos and anything like that, she’s more of an artist, one to draw whatever she wants to, using this art form to express herself, let her creativity shine, not design the new logo of some big corporation. Once again, writers did it well and we had our two lovers finally back, all smiles, right there in Scranton. They have a marriage coming up, maybe a house on the way, all seems is well and it couldn’t have been any better.
Especially not because Dwight is the best, no question there, and to me his reaction to Pam’s return was the most hilarious thing of the night. As Jim and Pam were kissing :
Dwight: You’re back.
Pam: Yeah.
Dwight: Good. (Handing her a bunch of files.) I need you to make five copies of these.
Pam: I’m not going inside.
Dwight: Alright… First thing in the morning then. (He walks away.)
Jim: Welcome back.
Just awesome. Now since we’re mentioning Dwight, let’s talk about the love triangle he founds himself involved in. As he promised he would last week, Dwight took over Andy’s marriage, he’s now in charge and, unlike the groom, he is having sex with Angela, again. Andy had to go on a trip to Winnipeg with Michael and Oscar, and so Dwight spend the night with Angela. Not surprising, but not really interesting either.
