The Big Bang Theory: The Codpiece Topology

(S02E02) Last week Leonard told Penny that he was fine with her not being smart, which might not have been the best thing to say. This came after Penny was getting uncertain about a possible future for the both of them, because she thought she wasn’t smart enough for Leonard, that they didn’t had enough in common. Whether it is true or not, we all knew one thing from the minute, last season, they started going out : it wouldn’t last.
It’s a thing with sitcoms, if not most TV shows, things don’t change. Change is bad, change means people don’t get what they’re used to get every week, and starts how trouble starts. Especially true with sitcoms, and probably an even stronger reason as to why they didn’t had a chance, over they differences or completely different styles and interests.
So this week it’s official, they’re broken up. And when Leonard sees Penny with another guy, in a very awkward situation (despite his claim), he says that he’s fine with it, and it gives him the freedom to move on himself. Which obviously no one believed…
“
Leonard: Are you saying that you’ve been holding back ?
Howard: Of course. Out of respect.
Leonard: So, how do you explain the 10 years before Penny ?
”
And this is when Leslie comes back in. Leslie isn’t just a girl, she’s also a geek. She isn’t just an “ex girlfriend” of Leonard, she’s also the arch-enemy of no other than Sheldon himself. And that, my friend, is why she’s so great. This wasn’t a one-time thing, as Sara Gilbert has been promoted to season regular this season, so it’s fair to say we will be seeing her again, no matter what.
There couldn’t be better news, really, because if Sheldon is and makes this show, it’s not that I would describe Leslie as a female version of Sheldon, but the two have probably a lot more in common than she and Leonard. And even better is how neither she or Sheldon can stand the other, which always results in perfect encounters when the two are in the same room, from greetings such as “Hey dumbass” to fight over scientific theories that I won’t even pretend to understand nor try to mention here.
Last week I explained how, while about Leonard and Penny, the episode worked because the central character was still Sheldon. This week, while very present of course, Sheldon wasn’t really at the center of everything (though, almost), but when you have someone like Leslie to take over it’s not a problem at all. So Leslie and Leonard were back together, and this time it wasn’t for “stress relief”, she was committed to lasting relationship.
Very much so, as she even began to mention children! Leonard still didn’t run, but that was not necessary because he had Sheldon in his life. In the end Sheldon came up, a fight with Leslie over previously mentioned scientific theories and whatnot ensued, and when Leonard failed to pick a side and mention the idea that their future children could choose their own theory, it was too much.

Shows: The Big Bang Theory

I love it when Sheldon and Leslie fight. It just like seeing people fight about their religion. And Leonard was trapped between two polar. hahaha
